Job description

MDW Associates is seeking an Intermediate Budget Analyst to join our team in support of the Office of the Chief Financial Officer and the Science and Technology Office at NASA's Marshall Space Flight Center in Huntsville, Alabama. This is an exciting opportunity to contribute directly to groundbreaking research, technology development, and mission-critical programs that help shape the future of space exploration. The selected candidate will serve as a trusted financial advisor, partnering with scientists, engineers, Principal Investigators, and NASA leadership to support strategic planning, budget execution, and resource management.
This position is located on-site and requires regular in-person collaboration with NASA customers and project teams.
The Intermediate Budget Analyst may perform a combination of some or all of the following duties:
  • Partnering with Principal Investigators, branch leadership, and multidisciplinary project teams to support financial planning and budget execution.
  • Analyzing budget and workforce data to identify trends, risks, opportunities, and actionable recommendations for leadership.
  • Developing and maintaining project budgets, spending plans, phasing plans, and budget submissions.
  • Monitoring project funding and expenditures while providing strategic recommendations to optimize resources and improve execution.
  • Preparing financial reports, presentations, and detailed variance analyses for management review.
  • Supporting Planning, Programming, Budgeting, and Execution (PPBE) activities and related budget formulation efforts.
  • Utilizing Power BI and other data analytics tools to create meaningful insights and support data-driven decision making.
  • Assisting with cost proposal development and financial planning activities for research and technology initiatives.
  • Collaborating with NASA Headquarters resource and financial personnel to resolve issues, interpret guidance, and provide required budget information.
  • Identifying opportunities to streamline processes, improve reporting, and enhance financial management practices.

Required Experience/Skills:
  • Minimum of six (6) years of relevant experience
  • Must possess strong analytical skills to accurately analyze financial data using advanced tools and processes
  • Proficient MS Office Applications including advanced knowledge of Excel and PowerPoint
  • Knowledge of and experience with Power BI
  • A knowledge & understanding of automated financial systems and budgetary report generation
  • Must possess excellent written and verbal communication skills (as demonstrated through past performance in preparing financial reports and documents)
  • Trustworthy and maintains confidentiality

Preferred Experience/Skills:
  • SAP and Business Objects (BOBJ) or other accounting systems
  • Experience developing cost proposal for Principal Investigators
  • Government Financial Processes

Education Requirement(s):
  • Candidates for this position must possess a BA/BS degree.

Clearance Requirement(s):
  • Public Trust - Candidates for this position must be submitted for a background investigation in order to satisfy government requirements.
