What does an Interior Organizer do?

An Interior Organizer helps clients declutter, arrange, and optimize spaces within homes or offices for better functionality and aesthetics. They assess areas such as closets, kitchens, offices, and garages, then develop customized organizational systems based on the client's needs. Their goal is to create efficient, easy-to-maintain spaces that reduce stress and improve daily living. Interior Organizers may also offer advice on storage solutions and help clients develop habits for maintaining organization.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an Interior Organizer, and why are they important?

To thrive as an Interior Organizer, you need a keen eye for spatial design, strong organizational skills, and often a background in interior design or professional organizing. Familiarity with digital planning tools, inventory management systems, and sometimes certifications from organizations like NAPO (National Association of Productivity & Organizing Professionals) are beneficial. Excellent communication, problem-solving abilities, and empathy help you understand client needs and tailor solutions effectively. These skills are crucial for creating efficient, aesthetically pleasing spaces that meet client goals and enhance daily living.

What are some common challenges faced by Interior Organizers, and how can they be overcome?

Interior Organizers often encounter challenges such as managing client expectations, working in spaces with limited storage solutions, and addressing emotional attachments clients may have to their belongings. Building strong communication skills is essential to help clients feel comfortable and motivated throughout the process. Creativity and problem-solving are also crucial for maximizing space efficiency in diverse environments. Successful Interior Organizers develop personalized systems that are both functional and sustainable for each client, ensuring long-term satisfaction.

Reports to: Advocacy Director

Status: Full-time, Remote, with in-person work required.

Salary: $26.44 - $28.37 per hour

Location: Fairbanks North Star Borough

Organization Overview
The Alaska Center Education Fund envisions a thriving, just, and sustainable Alaska for future generations. We engage and empower Alaskans of all ages to support clean air and water, a strong and resilient democracy, and a fair and equitable transition from an extractive economy to a regenerative economy. We focus on climate justice and clean energy solutions, wild salmon habitat protection, and ensuring all Alaskans can engage in the civic process. In partnership with our sister organization The Alaska Center, we engage in youth leadership development, community organizing, and supporting public officeholders who share our values.

Position Overview

The Alaska Center Education Fund seeks a motivated community connector to advance our Democracy for All Alaskans campaign in the Fairbanks North Star Borough. This role is responsible for voter outreach and engagement, volunteer recruitment and relationship building, planning and supporting community events, and driving Alaskans to take action on voting rights issues. This role is focused on increasing voter turnout while building relationships with volunteers and creating/maintaining pathways for volunteers to engage in our campaigns and become a part of our organization. The ideal candidate must love making connections and have the ability to find common ground with people of all backgrounds. Some evening and weekend work is essential for this role to reach community members and be present for community events. This is a grant-funded, one-year position. Employment after the grant cycle is not guaranteed.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Organize events, campaigns, and initiatives to promote voter education, registration and turnout voters in the Fairbanks North Star Borough.
  • Develop and strengthen relationships with new and current volunteers, our members, and the communities we serve with a focus on: young voters, BIPOC voters, and other low propensity voting communities.
  • Recruit volunteers to conduct direct voter contact, testify at legislative hearings, help with events, and complete other roles necessary to do our advocacy work.
  • Empower and train volunteers to become leaders in our campaigns to help shape and inform campaign goals, tactics, and strategies and ensure that the interests and vision of community members help shape our civic engagement work.
  • Conduct Get Out The Vote efforts that include talking to voters over the phone, at their front doors, and at events to encourage them to vote in state and local elections.
  • Create engaging voter education and turnout content for social media and email.
  • Assist in GOTV efforts in other regions and across programs, including supporting our utility election work.

Required Skills and Qualifications

  • Must have reliable transportation and willingness to work evenings and weekends.
  • Experience with community organizing, electoral campaigns, or civic engagement. Experience working directly with volunteers is preferred.
  • Ability and desire to build and maintain meaningful relationships with volunteers and stakeholders.
  • Commitment to understanding race, class, gender, and other equity issues in organizing and politics. Experience and commitment to strengthening racial justice, equity, and inclusion throughout our organization, in campaigns, and with partners.
  • Demonstrated initiative and ability to work well independently and on a team.
  • Ability to inspire action in others, lead by example, and instill purpose into daily campaign operations of the organization.
  • Ability to maintain a positive attitude and solution-based approach in high-pressure or difficult situations.

Preferred Skills and Qualification (not required):

  • Experience with Voter Action Network (VAN), EveryAction (EA) and affiliated databases.
  • Experience with Google-Suite platforms.

This is a full-time remote (some in-person work required) position that must be based in Fairbanks, North Pole, or the surrounding area. Salary is dependent on experience with a generous and competitive benefits package. All Alaska Center staff have access to professional development opportunities, including training and support. The Alaska Center provides a supportive work environment with excellent benefits and incentives. The Alaska Center is an equal opportunity employer. Employment and promotional opportunities are based upon individual capabilities and qualifications without regard to race, color, religion, gender, gender identity or expression, pregnancy, sexual orientation, age, national origin, marital status, citizenship, disability, veteran status, or any other protected characteristic as established under law.
