What is the 3-5-7 rule in interior design?

The 3-5-7 rule in interior design is a guideline for creating balanced and harmonious spaces by grouping objects or furniture in odd numbers—typically three, five, or seven—since odd groupings are more visually appealing. Interior designers often use this rule to arrange decor, artwork, or furniture to achieve a pleasing aesthetic and flow within a room.

How do Interior Designer Consultants typically collaborate with clients and other professionals during a project?

Interior Designer Consultants work closely with clients to understand their vision, preferences, and budget, often starting with consultations and mood boards. They regularly coordinate with architects, contractors, and vendors to ensure that design plans are feasible and materials are sourced appropriately. Effective communication and organization are key, as consultants must oversee timelines, resolve issues on-site, and adapt designs based on feedback. This collaborative process ensures that the final result aligns with both client expectations and practical constraints.

What is the highest paying job in interior design?

The highest paying roles in interior design are often senior positions such as Interior Design Directors or Principal Designers, who oversee large projects and manage teams. These roles typically require extensive experience, strong leadership skills, and advanced knowledge of design software and project management. Salaries can vary based on location, project scope, and reputation, with top professionals earning six-figure incomes.

What does an Interior Designer Consultant do?

An Interior Designer Consultant provides expert advice on how to enhance the aesthetics, functionality, and comfort of interior spaces. They work with clients to understand their needs and preferences, propose design concepts, select materials, colors, and furnishings, and may help oversee the implementation of the design plan. Unlike full-service interior designers, consultants often focus on guidance and recommendations rather than managing entire projects. Their goal is to help clients achieve a cohesive, stylish, and practical interior that fits their budget and lifestyle.

What is the 70/30 rule in interior design?

The 70/30 rule in interior design suggests that 70% of a space should be composed of neutral or subdued colors and elements, while 30% can feature bold accents or decorative items. Interior designers often use this ratio to create balanced and visually appealing environments by combining dominant neutral tones with strategic pops of color or pattern.

What does an interior design consultant do?

An interior design consultant advises clients on interior space planning, color schemes, furniture selection, and decor to improve functionality and aesthetics. They often create design plans, collaborate with contractors, and may use design software like AutoCAD or SketchUp. Strong communication and knowledge of design principles are essential for this role.

Job description

Interior Designer | Miami, FL

**Spanish-speaking needed for this opportunity**

We are hiring for our client, a design-driven team, seeking an Interior Designer to join their dynamic and highly collaborative team in Miami. This is an opportunity to contribute to a portfolio of hospitality-inspired residential environments where thoughtful design, brand storytelling, and technical precision come together.

This role is ideal for a designer who thrives in a fast-paced, design-forward environment; someone equally passionate about concept development and the rigor required to bring those ideas to life with clarity and discipline.

The Opportunity: As an Interior Designer, you will play a key role in shaping interior environments across a diverse portfolio of residential and hospitality developments. From model units and amenity spaces to public areas and sales environments, you will support the evolution of spaces that reflect a cohesive and elevated design vision.

Working alongside an energetic and driven team of self-starters, you will collaborate closely with internal departments, consultants, and vendors to ensure design concepts are executed with precision, aligned with budgets, and realized to the highest standard.

The Culture: Our client’s team is connected, collaborative, and forward-thinking, with a culture that encourages innovation and challenges individuals to grow. This is a group of driven, energetic professionals who take ownership of their work and are motivated to deliver exceptional design outcomes.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support the development and refinement of hospitality-driven interior concepts across multiple project types
  • Prepare and manage comprehensive FF&E packages, including detailed specifications for furniture, lighting, materials, and finishes
  • Coordinate with internal teams, consultants, procurement partners, and vendors to align design intent with project timelines and budgets
  • Review shop drawings, submittals, and vendor documentation to ensure adherence to design direction
  • Contribute to value engineering efforts while maintaining the integrity of the design vision
  • Partner with Marketing, Sales, Development, and Construction teams to ensure design aligns with brand positioning and buyer strategy
  • Participate in project meetings, track action items, and maintain clear and organized documentation
  • Manage multiple phases of several projects simultaneously with strong attention to detail and organization
  • Conduct site visits, oversee installations, and assist with punch list reviews to ensure quality execution

Qualifications

  • 4–7 years of professional interior design experience
  • Strong expertise in FF&E specification and documentation
  • A balance of creative vision and technical execution
  • Highly organized with the ability to manage multiple priorities seamlessly
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD required; Revit preferred
  • Solid understanding of construction documentation and consultant coordination
  • Bachelor’s degree in Interior Design or related field
  • Spanish language speaking

Why This Role: This is more than a production role—it’s an opportunity to contribute to thoughtfully curated environments that blend hospitality sensibility with residential living. You’ll gain exposure to the full lifecycle of design, from concept through execution, while working within a team that values both creativity and accountability.
