What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an Interior Design Relocation specialist, and why are they important?

To thrive as an Interior Design Relocation specialist, you need expertise in space planning, project management, and a background in interior design or a related field. Familiarity with CAD software, inventory management systems, and industry certifications like NCIDQ are typically required. Strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills set professionals apart in this role. These skills ensure seamless transitions for clients, efficient use of space, and successful project outcomes during relocations.

What is interior design relocation?

Interior design relocation refers to the process of moving and setting up interior spaces—such as homes, offices, or commercial properties—while maintaining or enhancing their design aesthetics and functionality. This service typically involves planning the layout of furniture and décor in the new space, coordinating logistics for transportation, and ensuring the new environment meets the client's style and needs. Interior designers may also help source new furnishings, manage installations, and work with movers to protect valuable items. The goal is to provide a seamless transition that preserves or improves the look and feel of the original space.

What is the difference between Interior Design Relocation vs Interior Design?

Interior Design Relocation involves managing the logistics of moving and adapting interior spaces for clients, often requiring project management skills. Interior Design focuses on creating and planning interior spaces. While both roles require similar credentials, their primary functions differ: one centers on relocation logistics, the other on design creation.

How does an interior designer specializing in relocation typically collaborate with clients and other professionals during a move?

Interior designers focused on relocation work closely with clients to understand their needs and preferences, both before and after a move. They often coordinate with moving companies, contractors, and vendors to ensure seamless furniture placement, space planning, and optimal design in the new space. Regular communication and site visits are common, and designers frequently manage timelines and budgets while addressing any challenges that arise during the transition. This collaborative approach ensures the client's new environment is both functional and stylish, minimizing stress during the relocation process.

Application Deadline: 3 June 2026

Department: Federal Services

Location: Arlington, VA

Compensation: $120,000 - $150,000 / year

Description
TeleSolv Consulting is seeking a highly organized and detail-oriented Space Manager to support government facility operations through strategic space planning, occupancy management, relocation coordination, and workspace optimization initiatives.
This position supports the federal government, and all applicants must be local to the assigned work area.
The Space Manager plays a critical role in supporting Government operations by overseeing space utilization activities, coordinating occupancy planning efforts, supporting office relocations, and ensuring facilities are aligned with operational requirements. This role requires strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills with the ability to manage multiple space-related initiatives simultaneously.
This position supports Government operations responsible for administering space planning, relocation coordination, build-out and reconfiguration project management, occupancy agreement tracking and planning, and strategic real estate support services across a broad portfolio.
Responsibilities:
  • Draft and maintain comprehensive space plans for up to 180 offices in alignment with Government operational needs and federal space utilization policies.
  • Track and assess space utilization, recommending office layouts, configurations, and allocations based on current and future mission requirements.
  • Identify space requirements, including functional needs, departmental workflows, and occupancy levels.
  • Apply space planning analytics to evaluate utilization and efficiency, identifying opportunities for consolidation, optimization, and cost reduction.
  • Develop structured relocation plans for approximately 60 offices impacted by building dispositions or operational changes, including risk mitigation strategies.
  • Support management of approximately 280 occupancy agreements, ensuring compliance with federal regulations and lease terms.
  • Coordinate with Government stakeholders to align occupancy agreements with space reduction and optimization initiatives.
  • Conduct on-site intake and staffing of seating, space, and release requests using systems of record such as ServiceNow or successor platforms (e.g., Tririga®)
Qualifications:
  • Must be a U.S. Citizen.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Facilities Management, Architecture, Interior Design, Real Estate, Business Administration, Urban Planning, or related field preferred.
  • Minimum 8 years of space (facility) planning experience and NCIDQ certification. CFM preferred.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a Public Trust/Suitability Clearance.
  • Experience supporting space planning, occupancy management, facilities operations, or workplace management activities.
  • Experience coordinating office relocations, move management, or facility reconfiguration efforts preferred.
  • Knowledge of space utilization methodologies, occupancy planning, and facility management principles.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to interpret facility and occupancy data.
  • Experience using Microsoft Office Suite and familiarity with space planning or facility management software preferred.
  • Strong communication and stakeholder management skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and projects simultaneously.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
