Position Responsibilities
Position Summary
The University of Idaho's Department of Design and Environments invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track or tenured position in Interior Architecture and Design (IAD) at the Moscow campus. This is a 9-month academic year appointment beginning August 2026 at a rank of Assistant or Associate Professor, commensurate with experience. The successful candidate is expected to teach assigned courses and to provide program support including academic advising and participation in CIDA accreditation planning and processes. Tenure-track assistant professors are also expected to conduct and maintain scholarly activities as well as provide intramural and extramural professional service.
Description of Expectations:
This tenure-track position is expected to teach undergraduate IAD studios according to the needs of the IAD program as well as lecture/seminar courses in one or more of the following areas based on the qualifications/expertise of the candidate:
  • History/theory of IAD
  • Design communication (sketching, portfolios, digital tools, etc.)
  • Sustainable/healthy interior environments
  • Introduction/beginning design
  • Design research

This position is also expected to develop and maintain a research agenda with inquiry and outputs in one or more scholarly areas of teaching and learning, artistic creativity, and/or discovery. Rank and tenure are negotiable based on how the candidate meets the criteria outlined in department and college bylaws.

Listed degree qualification is required at time of application.
Required Qualifications
  • Master's degree or other terminal degree in interior design, interior architecture, or closely related field.
  • Experience teaching in university setting and/or design practice experience.

Preferred Qualifications
  • PhD in interior design or interior architecture.
  • NCIDQ Certification.
  • LEED AP, WELL AP, CHID, and/or other discipline appropriate professional credentials.
  • 3 or more years of teaching experience in a university setting.
  • Evidence of teaching excellence.
  • Evidence of design practice excellence.
  • Evidence of research excellence.
