Job Summary:
The Interior Designer at Kaas Wilson creates functional, safe, and aesthetically pleasing spaces by assessing space requirements, determining optimal furniture placement, and selecting decorative items, all while adhering to relevant drawings, building codes, and inspection requirements.
Duties/Responsibilities:
  • Train, coach, and counsel, the Interior Designer 1's and Interior Design Interns.
  • Work independently to make design decisions and coordinate with the Project Manager and client directly.
  • Determine timelines and project costs and present accurate estimates to clients.
  • Assist the Interior Design Project Manager with writing fee proposals for new projects.

As well as duties/responsibilities of Interior Designer 1.
  • Work with clients to determine initial goals and requirements for the space to be designed, such as budget, architectural preferences, and purpose and function.
  • Develop designs and details that enhance a living space functionally and aesthetically.
  • Coordinate and present the living space implementation plan, layout, utilization of furnishings or equipment, casework, lighting fixtures, and color coordination to senior designers. May present to clients with a more senior interior designer for approval.
  • Advise clients on interior design factors including planning, color coordination, and layout and utilization of furnishings or equipment.
  • Collaborate with the design team, architect, engineer, and general contractor to further understand the function, appearance, and furnishings of a space.
  • Use design applications or other visual aids to demonstrate preliminary designs for presentation documents.
  • Assist with modeling design concepts/components in Revit to match the design intent and use Enscape to create preliminary 3D views for presentations.
  • Order or obtain necessary materials, adhering to project and budget specifications.
  • Use Revit and related software to produce construction documents.
  • Create sets of interior drawings with Revit that accurately and clearly describe the design intent, materials, and technical components of the design, including any necessary revisions during the bidding and construction process.
  • Meet deadlines, and self-check work for accuracy, completeness, and legibility.
  • Assist with coordination, installation, and arrangement of accessories, draperies, artwork, furniture, and related items.
  • Prepare accurate specifications and documentation for project finishes, furniture, and light fixtures. Assist with reselections when required.
  • Ensure interior drawings are up-to-date, complete, and vetted by senior designers.
  • Conduct a preliminary review of shop drawings and construction plans for final approval by a senior designer.
  • Review construction photos and reports from the Construction Administration team; advise on any issues as needed. Attend on-site construction meetings as needed or requested by the senior interior designer.
  • Communicate and coordinate with product and material representatives.
  • Oversee the installation of materials, furniture, and other design elements.
  • Support business development activities through assistance with aids such as PowerPoint or InDesign productions. In lieu of an Interior Design Intern, assist with finish boards when required.
  • Maintain current knowledge of trends and materials, techniques, and other developments in interior design.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Requirements
Required Skills/Abilities:
  • Detail-oriented with excellent problem-solving, organizational skills, and motivation to learn.
  • Ability to apply a sense of style to create aesthetically pleasing interiors.
  • Strong visual design skills including proportion and aesthetics.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including presentation skills.
  • Ability to use Adobe Creative Suite, Revit, and Enscape.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite or related software.
  • Basic understanding of building codes and inspection regulations related to interiors.
  • Some local and out-of-state travel may be required.

Education and Experience:
  • Three to five years in a commercial/architectural firm or related experience preferred.
  • Bachelor's degree in Interior Design or a related field from a CIDA-accredited program is strongly preferred.
  • NCIDQ Certification is highly preferred or must have an interest in pursuing certification.

Physical Requirements:
  • Prolonged periods sitting or standing at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times.
  • Must be able to distinguish between colors.
