How much do interconnect jobs pay per hour?

As of Aug 22, 2026, the average hourly pay for interconnect in the United States is $24.54, according to ZipRecruiter salary data. Most workers in this role earn between $20.19 and $27.88 per hour, depending on experience, location, and employer.

What is an interconnect?

Interconnect jobs typically refer to roles involved in designing, maintaining, and managing the physical and logical connections between different network or system components, such as cables, switches, routers, and data centers. These professionals ensure that communication between devices, servers, or networks is reliable and efficient. Interconnect jobs are commonly found in telecommunications, data centers, and IT infrastructure sectors. Responsibilities may include installation, troubleshooting, and optimization of interconnection systems to support smooth data transfer and connectivity.

What skills and qualifications are needed to thrive as an interconnect engineer?

To excel as an Interconnect Engineer, you need a solid background in electrical engineering, signal integrity, and circuit design, typically supported by a relevant degree. Proficiency with simulation tools like HFSS, SPICE, and CAD software, as well as knowledge of industry standards and testing equipment, is essential. Strong problem-solving abilities, attention to detail, and effective communication are important soft skills in this role. These competencies are vital to ensure reliable, high-performance connections in complex electronic systems and successful project outcomes.

How does an interconnect engineer typically collaborate with other teams during large-scale network deployments?

Interconnect Engineers play a crucial role in coordinating with network architects, data center operations, and vendor partners to ensure seamless connectivity between systems. They are often involved in cross-functional meetings to align on network requirements, troubleshoot connectivity issues, and manage timelines for cabling and hardware installations. Effective communication and documentation are essential, as Interconnect Engineers must relay technical specifications and progress updates to both technical and non-technical stakeholders. This collaborative approach helps maintain network reliability and supports rapid scaling as organizational needs evolve.

What is the difference between Interconnect vs Network Technician?

AspectInterconnectNetwork Technician
CertificationsFCC, Cisco, CompTIA Network+CompTIA Network+, Cisco CCNA
Work EnvironmentTelecom facilities, data centers, installation sitesOffice, data centers, client sites
Industry UsageTelecommunications, data servicesIT, networking, telecommunications
Job FocusConnecting telecom infrastructure, fiber optics, hardware setupConfiguring, troubleshooting, maintaining networks

Interconnect specialists focus on establishing and maintaining physical telecom connections, often working with fiber optics and hardware. Network Technicians handle network setup, troubleshooting, and maintenance of data and voice networks. While both roles involve networking skills, Interconnect roles are more hardware and infrastructure-oriented, whereas Network Technicians focus on network performance and configuration.

Job description

We are seeking an experienced SoC Interconnect Technology Team Lead to drive the architecture, design, and execution of next-generation coherent and non-coherent interconnect solutions for advanced SoCs. This role requires deep expertise in scalable interconnect fabrics across mobile, battery-operated, and large-scale compute systems, with a strong focus on performance, power efficiency, and system-level optimization.

You will lead a high-performing team responsible for delivering robust interconnect IP and shaping future SoC architectures.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead the architecture and development of coherent and non-coherent interconnect fabrics for complex SoCs.
  • Define and drive system-level interconnect strategies, including topology, Quality of Service (QoS), latency, bandwidth, and power optimization.
  • Collaborate with CPU, GPU, NPU, memory, and system teams to ensure seamless integration and performance scaling.
  • Drive adoption and implementation of industry standards (e.g., AMBA AXI/ACE/CHI or equivalent).
  • Own performance modeling, analysis, and bottleneck identification across use cases.
  • Guide microarchitecture, RTL design, and verification strategy for interconnect IP.
  • Lead debug and root-cause analysis of complex system-level issues.
  • Mentor and grow a team of architects and engineers.
  • Contribute to roadmap planning for next-generation SoC interconnect technologies.
Required Qualifications
  • 15+ years of experience in SoC architecture/design, with a focus on interconnects or system fabrics.
  • Proven track record of delivering large-scale SoCs (mobile, battery-powered, or high-performance compute platforms).
  • Deep understanding of coherent interconnect protocols (e.g., AMBA ACE, CHI, CCIX, CXL, or similar).
  • Strong experience with non-coherent interconnects (AXI, NoC-based fabrics, etc.).
  • Expertise in performance analysis, modeling, and system trade-offs (latency, bandwidth, power).
  • Solid knowledge of cache coherency, memory hierarchy, and system architecture.
  • Experience leading cross-functional teams and driving complex projects to tape-out.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with battery-optimized SoC design (low power, DVFS, power domains).
  • Familiarity with AI/ML accelerators, GPUs, or heterogeneous compute systems.
  • Exposure to network-on-chip (NoC) design methodologies and tools.
  • Experience with silicon bring-up and post-silicon validation.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and stakeholder management skills.
What You’ll Bring
  • Strategic thinking with strong execution capability.
  • Ability to influence architecture across multiple subsystems.
  • Passion for building scalable, high-performance, and power-efficient systems.
  • A track record of mentoring and building high-impact teams.
