How much do interconnect jobs pay per hour?

As of Aug 22, 2026, the average hourly pay for interconnect in the United States is $24.54, according to ZipRecruiter salary data. Most workers in this role earn between $20.19 and $27.88 per hour, depending on experience, location, and employer.

What is an interconnect?

Interconnect jobs typically refer to roles involved in designing, maintaining, and managing the physical and logical connections between different network or system components, such as cables, switches, routers, and data centers. These professionals ensure that communication between devices, servers, or networks is reliable and efficient. Interconnect jobs are commonly found in telecommunications, data centers, and IT infrastructure sectors. Responsibilities may include installation, troubleshooting, and optimization of interconnection systems to support smooth data transfer and connectivity.

What skills and qualifications are needed to thrive as an interconnect engineer?

To excel as an Interconnect Engineer, you need a solid background in electrical engineering, signal integrity, and circuit design, typically supported by a relevant degree. Proficiency with simulation tools like HFSS, SPICE, and CAD software, as well as knowledge of industry standards and testing equipment, is essential. Strong problem-solving abilities, attention to detail, and effective communication are important soft skills in this role. These competencies are vital to ensure reliable, high-performance connections in complex electronic systems and successful project outcomes.

How does an interconnect engineer typically collaborate with other teams during large-scale network deployments?

Interconnect Engineers play a crucial role in coordinating with network architects, data center operations, and vendor partners to ensure seamless connectivity between systems. They are often involved in cross-functional meetings to align on network requirements, troubleshoot connectivity issues, and manage timelines for cabling and hardware installations. Effective communication and documentation are essential, as Interconnect Engineers must relay technical specifications and progress updates to both technical and non-technical stakeholders. This collaborative approach helps maintain network reliability and supports rapid scaling as organizational needs evolve.

What is the difference between Interconnect vs Network Technician?

AspectInterconnectNetwork Technician
CertificationsFCC, Cisco, CompTIA Network+CompTIA Network+, Cisco CCNA
Work EnvironmentTelecom facilities, data centers, installation sitesOffice, data centers, client sites
Industry UsageTelecommunications, data servicesIT, networking, telecommunications
Job FocusConnecting telecom infrastructure, fiber optics, hardware setupConfiguring, troubleshooting, maintaining networks

Interconnect specialists focus on establishing and maintaining physical telecom connections, often working with fiber optics and hardware. Network Technicians handle network setup, troubleshooting, and maintenance of data and voice networks. While both roles involve networking skills, Interconnect roles are more hardware and infrastructure-oriented, whereas Network Technicians focus on network performance and configuration.

Job description

Overview

Working across the globe, V2X builds smart solutions designed to integrate physical and digital infrastructure from base to battlefield. We bring 120 years of successful mission support to improve security, streamline logistics, and enhance readiness. Aligned around a shared purpose, our $3.9B company and 16,000 people work alongside our clients, here and abroad, to tackle their most complex challenges with integrity, respect, responsibility, and professionalism.

The Senior Interconnect Engineer is responsible for the design, validation, and sustainment of electrical interconnection systems that meet the stringent requirements of military and civil platforms. This role integrates multidisciplinary technical expertise with compliancedriven execution to ensure that wire harnesses, connectors, and interface architectures conform to missioncritical standards such as AS50881 (wiring aerospace vehicles) and IPC/WHMAA620 (acceptability of cable and wire harness assemblies). The Senior Interconnect Engineer independently develops and releases complete interconnect Technical Data Packages (TDPs) using PTC CREO Schematics and PTC CREO Parametric tools that conform to ASME Y14series drafting standards. Senior Interconnect Engineers serve as the bridge between electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, systems engineering (integration), and manufacturing—translating interface requirements into robust, traceable, and certifiable interconnect solutions.

Senior Interconnect Engineers are engaged throughout the full Product Lifecycle Management process. They advise on interface strategy during early design phases, support BOM development for interconnect components, enable integration during system build, and provide sustainment support for depotlevel maintenance and upgrades. They work with minimal supervision, provide Interconnect technical leadership on projects, and review the work of junior interconnect engineers.

At V2X Indianapolis, Senior Interconnect Engineers support platforms ranging from ground systems to FAA and DoD aircraft, requiring expertise in Aerospace, Electrical, RF, Mechanical Packaging, and Systems Integration. Their work ensures that every signal and power path is engineered for reliability, maintainability, and compliance—ready for deployment in the most demanding operational environments.

Travel: Limited, in support of program objectives.

Responsibilities

Key Responsibilities:

  • Execute cable and wire harness design tasks with minimal supervision for aviation-focused military applications.
    • Apply AS50881 and IPC/WHMA-A-620 workmanship and routing standards to cable/harness designs.
    • Interpret and translate Interface Control Documents (ICDs) and system requirements into interconnect architecture, pin mapping, and routing strategies.
    • Incorporate electrical design considerations into wiring systems, including voltage drop, AWG selection, breaker sizing, RF line loss, relay usage, and grounding/shielding practices.
  • Independently create and maintain Technical Data Packages (TDPs), ensuring configuration control and revision traceability.
    • Use PTC CREO Schematics and PTC CREO Parametric to generate:
      • Wiring diagrams and interconnect schematics
      • Harness drawings and wire tables
      • Detail and assembly models

    • Develop interconnect documentation sets formatted to ASME Y14.100, Y14.24, and Y14.5 standards, consistent with MIL-STD-31000.
    • Use PTC Windchill for document release, BOM integration, and change management.
  • Participate in technical project execution activities, trade studies, and engineering analyses related to interconnect design.
  • Coordinate with systems, electrical, mechanical, manufacturing, and program teams to ensure interconnect solutions meet fit, function, and performance requirements.
  • Support fit checks, routing validation, and integration activities during system build and test as needed.
