Job Description

The Business Intelligence Manager is responsible for designing, developing, and delivering enterprise reporting and analytics solutions that support strategic and operational decision-making across National Vision. This role partners with Field and Corporate stakeholders to transform business requirements into actionable insights through modern Power BI dashboards, self-service reporting solutions, and advanced business analysis.

The ideal candidate combines strong technical expertise, analytical problem-solving skills, and business partnership capabilities to drive actionable insights and scalable reporting solutions. This role will play a critical part in National Vision's reporting & analytical advancements to a modern Power BI-based analytics ecosystem, with an emphasis on trusted data, governed KPI definitions, and executive-ready reporting appropriate for a publicly traded, multi-unit optical retail company.

Essential Functions

Business Intelligence & Dashboard Development

Design, develop, and maintain enterprise Power BI dashboards and reporting solutions.

Convert and modernize legacy Web Intelligence (WebI) reports into interactive Power BI dashboards.

Develop scalable reporting solutions that promote self-service analytics and data-driven decision making.

Create and maintain data models, calculations, KPIs, and metrics within Power BI, ensuring clear definitions, consistent business logic, and appropriate documentation.

Develop reporting that supports key optical retail and multi-unit performance metrics, including comparable sales, traffic, conversion, ticket, exam volume, managed care mix, product mix, store productivity, and field hierarchy performance.

Ensure dashboards and reports adhere to enterprise standards for usability, accuracy, and performance.

Partner with Data & Analytics teams to leverage semantic models, governed data sources, and enterprise data assets.

Measure and improve dashboard adoption, usability, and business impact by partnering with users to refine solutions after launch.

Lead user acceptance testing, validation, and deployment activities for new reporting solutions.

Business Analysis & Insights

Support leadership, field operations, and corporate business partners through analytical consulting and ad hoc analysis.

Analyze large data sets to identify business trends, opportunities, risks, and performance drivers.

Develop fact-based recommendations that influence business decisions and operational strategies.

Translate analysis into clear recommendations that help improve sales, margin, customer experience, field execution, productivity, and operational performance.

Create executive-ready presentations, scorecards, dashboards, and business reviews.

Provide analytical support for strategic initiatives, special projects, and performance improvement efforts.

Perform root-cause analysis and diagnostic reporting to identify key business drivers.

Stakeholder Partnership

Serve as a trusted advisor to Field Leadership and Corporate stakeholders, influencing reporting priorities through credibility, business knowledge, and analytical expertise.

Gather business requirements and translate them into reporting and analytical solutions.

Communicate complex technical and analytical concepts in a clear and actionable manner.

Facilitate discussions between business teams and technical teams to ensure successful solution delivery.

Support change management to Power BI transition by building user confidence in new reporting tools, explaining changes clearly, and reinforcing a self-service analytics mindset.

Train and support business users in the adoption of Power BI reporting solutions.

Reporting Operations & Migration Support

Maintain and support current reporting solution during the enterprise transition to Power BI.

Monitor reporting accuracy and troubleshoot data or reporting issues.

Work closely with IT database analysts and designers as a representative of business users.

Help manage intake, prioritization, sequencing, and communication for the reporting migration roadmap in partnership with business and technical stakeholders.

Assist in prioritizing and managing the reporting migration roadmap.

Document reporting requirements, business logic, KPIs, and reporting standards.

Ensure reporting solutions are appropriately validated, controlled, and supportable for recurring executive, financial, and operational reporting needs.

Identify opportunities to eliminate manual reporting and improve reporting efficiency through automation.

Support Monthly Business Reviews (MBRs), quarterly business reviews, executive presentations, and operational performance discussions.

Contribute to the evolution of enterprise KPI frameworks, metric definitions, reporting governance, and a trusted single source of truth for key performance reporting.

Promote best practices in reporting, visualization design, business intelligence development, documentation, and responsible handling of confidential business data.


Qualifications

Education

Four year college degree or equivalent experience in Business, Finance, Information Systems, Computer Science, Analytics, Statistics, or related field (Required)

Work Experience

  • 7+ years experience in business intelligence, analytics, reporting, or related disciplines.(Required)
  • Demonstrated experience designing and delivering Power BI solutions for business stakeholders. (Required)
  • Experience supporting both operational and executive-level reporting. (Required)
  • Experience gathering requirements and delivering end-to-end reporting solutions. (Required)
  • Experience working in large, complex data environments. (Required)
  • Experience supporting reporting in a public-company environment or other setting requiring strong accuracy, governance, documentation, and executive-level visibility (Preferred)

Additional Skills - Includes Computer/Software Skills

  • Advanced Power BI development skills: Power BI Desktop, Data Modeling, DAX, Power Query, and Visualization Design. (Required)
  • Advanced SQL and Microsoft Excel skills. (Required)
  • Experience working with data warehouses and enterprise reporting environments. (Required)
  • Experience supporting User Acceptance Testing (UAT) and production deployments. (Required)
  • Experience with SAP Business Objects / Web Intelligence. (Preferred)
  • Knowledge of enterprise semantic models and data governance concepts. (Preferred)
  • Experience working with Azure Data Platform, Databricks, or cloud-based analytics environments. (Preferred)
  • Experience in retail, optical retail, healthcare services, consumer, or other multi-unit business environments.(Preferred)
  • Familiarity with store, field, merchandising, managed care, finance, or operational reporting metrics (Preferred)
