Role

The Business Intelligence Analyst Intern supports the development of accurate, timely, and meaningful data visualizations in partnership with key stakeholders. This role contributes to the department’s mission of understanding and meeting member needs through data driven insights.
The intern applies developing analytical skills, foundational knowledge of the financial or business environment, and emerging technical abilities to assist in researching, collecting, analyzing, and interpreting data from internal and external sources. This position helps prepare and organize large, varied datasets, supports the design of analytical or reporting environments, and contributes to communicating findings in a clear, accessible way for business partners.

Major Duties and Responsibilities

Develop new enterprise business intelligence (BI) service offerings, content creation, and value propositions to support and improve business processes.

Collaborate with end users to identify needs and opportunities for improved data management and delivery.

Provide ongoing development and maintenance of an operational data store and enterprise data warehouse using BI best practices, relational structures, dimensional data modeling,structured query language skills, data warehouse and reporting techniques.

Enhances processes regarding data. Improves the quality, accuracy, visibility and usability of the data.

Provide ongoing development and maintenance of a BI architecture that enables fact based decision making and ad hoc analysis and insight generation.

Provide interactive real time dashboards and key performance indicators using, for example, Microsoft Power BI, SQL Server Reporting Services, Tableau, Sisense, SAP Crystal Reports, IBM Cognos, Qlik, or newly identified BI tools.

Provide end user support and encourage user adoption. Act as Tier 1 support for end users of BI tools. Train end users on basic functionality. Direct users to training material and available resources.

Under general direction, responsible for converting business requirements and high level data collection needs into well specified analyses, reporting and visualizations.

Must comply with all company policies and procedures, applicable laws and regulations, including but not limited to, the Bank Secrecy Act, the Patriot Act, and the Office of Foreign Assets Control.

Knowledge and Skills

Experience

At least 2+ years of college coursework completed with an emphasis in data analytics, computer science, business, or financial analysis. Foundational knowledge of Enterprise level Business Intelligence and reporting tools such as SSRS, Power BI, Tableau, Cognos, or similar platforms is preferred. Exposure to database concepts and introductory development skills required. Working familiarity with web based or analytical development tools (Databricks, Fabric, Python, SQL Reporting, JavaScript, C++, PHP, ASP, ColdFusion) is beneficial. Ability to apply basic algebraic and financial equations in analytical work required. Experience with Microsoft Office, including comfort with advanced Excel (macros or Visual Basic preferred), is strongly valued.

Education/Certifications/Licenses

Pursuing BA/BS in Mathematics, Statistics, Business, Finance, or related field with coursework in marketing, analytics and statistics.

Interpersonal Skills

Ability to analyze complex data, draw conclusions and make business recommendations using well-developed oral and written communication skills including the writing of executive reports.

Other Skills

Familiarity with coding languages such as Python, Java, or R is preferred. Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office products, including Excel, Access, and Word, required. Foundational understanding of relational database concepts and the ability to apply introductory knowledge of systems such as MS SQL, Oracle, or Access. Exposure to marketing or business database management, statistical analysis techniques, and statistical software (e.g., SPSS) is beneficial. Ability to work with, query, and interpret large datasets, transforming them into clear, actionable insights for a diverse audience. Demonstrated ability to create organized reports that synthesize complex information, including graphs, charts, presentations, and written summaries. Ability to research, read, and interpret financial reports, business documentation, and industry publications. Strong verbal communication skills, including the ability to present ideas and analytical findings clearly and professionally. Ability to manage multiple tasks or projects in a fast paced environment.

Physical Requirements

Continuous sitting. Occasional pushing, pulling, or carrying up to 35 pounds. Able to bend, sit, and stand in order to perform primarily sedentary work with limited physical exertion and occasional lifting of up to 35 lbs. Must be capable of climbing/descending stairs in an emergency situation. Must be able to operate routine office equipment including computer terminals and keyboards, telephones, copiers, facsimiles, and calculators. Must be able to routinely perform work on computer for an average of 6 to8 hours per day, when necessary. Must be able to work extended hours or travel off site whenever required or requested by management. Must be capable of regular, reliable and timely attendance. Frequent use of hands in repetitive tasks such as simple grasping, twisting/turning of wrists. Continuous finger manipulation while entering data into the computer system and performing various clerical duties such as typing, filing, and writing.

Working Conditions

Must be able to routinely perform work indoors in climate controlled shared work area with minimal noise.

Must be able to perform job functions independently or with limited supervision and work effectively either on own or as part of a team. Must be able to read and carry out various written instructions and follow oral instructions. Must be able to complete basic mathematical calculations, spell accurately, and understand computer basics. Must be able to speak clearly and deliver information in a logical and understandable sequence. Must be capable of dealing calmly and professionally with numerous different personalities from diverse cultures at various levels within and outside of the organization and demonstrate highest levels of customer service and discretion when dealing with the public. Must be able to perform responsibilities with composure under the stress of deadlines / requirements for extreme accuracy and quality and/or fast pace. Must be able to effectively handle multiple, simultaneous, and changing priorities. Must be capable of exercising highest level of discretion on both internal and external confidential matters.
