Position Details
Title Associate/Full Professor of Neurology Specific Title Director, Center for Neuromuscular Disorders Appointment Type Tenure Track Faculty Department IUSM - Neurology Campus IU School of Medicine Indianapolis Position Summary
The position of Director of the Center for Neuromuscular Disorders for the IU Health-IU School of Medicine Neurosciences Institute will provide oversight, direction, and vision for growth for clinical care, research, and education. This unique opportunity will build on strong existing clinical and research programs at the IU School of Medicine-IU Health.
With the Institute Co-Directors:
  • Develop and implement the strategic plan for the Center, to align with the Neuroscience Institute strategic plan
  • Provide operational oversight including space, personnel, and equipment needs
  • Advance philanthropic efforts with IU School of Medicine, IU Health, and Riley Children's Foundations
  • Enhance innovation and protect intellectual property

Enhance Clinical Care Delivery System-Wide:
  • Enhance multidisciplinary care models, including clinical centers of excellence (e.g. ALSA, MDA, CMTA, PPMD)
  • Enhance statewide approach to care
  • Guide recruiting and retention of faculty and staff
  • Promote new treatments and technologies
  • Advance public health initiatives and advocacy
  • Enhance regional and national reputation
  • Develop quality measures

Education and Research Oversight:
  • Collaborate with chairs and program directors on education and recruitment
  • Promote multidisciplinary scientific collaboration
  • Increase trainee involvement
  • Support existing and new fellowships/ training grants
  • Provide direction for fellowships

Research Leadership
  • Execute strategic research plans with focus on NIH funding
  • Collaborate with existing IU School of Medicine and IU Health centers and institutes and regional partners
  • Oversee and mentor investigators
  • Liaison with national disease networks and registries
  • Promote large-scale multi-center clinical trials

Basic Qualifications
Doctorate or terminal degree required. Successful applicants must have PhD and/or MD degree.
