What is an integrations manager?

An Integrations Manager is a professional responsible for overseeing and managing the process of connecting different software systems, platforms, or applications within an organization. Their main goal is to ensure that disparate systems work together seamlessly, facilitating efficient data flow and business processes. They often coordinate with IT teams, vendors, and business stakeholders to plan, implement, and troubleshoot integrations. This role requires strong technical knowledge, project management skills, and the ability to communicate across departments.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an integrations manager?

To thrive as an Integrations Manager, you need a solid understanding of systems integration, API management, and project management, typically supported by a degree in computer science or a related field. Familiarity with integration platforms like MuleSoft, Dell Boomi, or Microsoft Azure, as well as certifications in relevant technologies, is often required. Strong communication, problem-solving, and stakeholder management skills help distinguish top performers in this role. These skills ensure seamless technology integrations, minimize disruptions, and drive successful collaboration across technical and business teams.

What are some common challenges faced by an integrations manager when coordinating cross-departmental projects?

As an Integrations Manager, one of the main challenges is aligning the priorities and timelines of multiple departments, such as IT, product, and operations, to ensure seamless integration of systems or platforms. Navigating different communication styles and technical expertise levels can require strong interpersonal and project management skills. Additionally, managing unexpected technical issues or data compatibility problems often requires creative problem-solving and the ability to adapt quickly to changes. Successful Integrations Managers proactively address these challenges by establishing clear communication channels, setting realistic expectations, and fostering collaborative relationships across teams.

Role positioning:

This role combines technical coordination, operational readiness, platform integration, and support enablement. It is not a pure project management role and does not replace day-to-day operations ownership.

  • Coordinate with engineering, cybersecurity, site, vendor, and operations teams when post-transition remediation or clarification is required.
Control, Evidence, and Readiness Support
  • Assist with collecting, organizing, validating, and maintaining control evidence and readiness artifacts.
  • Support closure of control validation items, remediation actions, exception documentation, and operational readiness gaps.
  • Coordinate with cybersecurity, architecture, operations, and site stakeholders to obtain missing information required for control reviews or operational acceptance.

  • Coordinate with platform owners and operations teams to close monitoring or support integration gaps.
  • Confirm monitoring and escalation expectations are documented and understood by support teams.
Documentation and Records Completion
  • Coordinate completion and validation of runbooks, support notes, asset records, diagrams, connectivity information, and operational support instructions.
  • Identify documentation gaps affecting supportability, audit readiness, or operational ownership.
  • Work with delivery, site, and operations teams to reconcile as-built information with operational records.
  • Ensure documentation updates are reflected in the appropriate repositories or operational systems of record.
Risk, Exception, and Remediation Tracking
  • Support tracking of risks, exceptions, remediation actions, and operational defects.
  • Coordinate technical input from architecture, cybersecurity, delivery, site, and operations teams to support issue resolution.
  • Escalate unresolved or high-impact operational readiness risks through appropriate channels.
  • Help ensure risk and remediation decisions are documented and traceable.
Operational Support Enablement
  • Assist operations teams with understanding support requirements, escalation paths, known issues, and operational considerations for OT environments.
  • Validate that support teams have the information needed to triage incidents, manage changes, and support monitoring or platform issues.
  • Support development or refinement of operational runbooks and repeatable support patterns.
  • Participate in lessons-learned activities to improve readiness and supportability practices.
QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Cybersecurity, Engineering, Computer Science, or equivalent experience preferred.
  • 6+ years of experience in infrastructure, cybersecurity, networking, operational technology, platform integration, operations readiness, or technical delivery roles.
