What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an Integration Developer, and why are they important?

To thrive as an Integration Developer, you need strong programming skills (often in Java, Python, or similar languages), experience with APIs, and a solid understanding of data formats like XML and JSON, typically supported by a degree in computer science or related field. Familiarity with integration platforms (such as MuleSoft, Dell Boomi, or Apache Camel) and knowledge of cloud services and middleware systems are common technical requirements. Strong problem-solving abilities, attention to detail, and effective communication are valuable soft skills that help manage complex integration projects and collaborate with cross-functional teams. These skills are vital to ensure seamless data flow, system interoperability, and the successful delivery of integration solutions in dynamic IT environments.

How does an Integration Developer typically collaborate with other teams during a large-scale system implementation?

Integration Developers play a key role in bridging gaps between different technical teams, such as software engineers, database administrators, and business analysts. During a large-scale system implementation, they work closely with these groups to understand data flows, define integration points, and ensure that various systems communicate seamlessly. Regular meetings, code reviews, and shared documentation are common practices to ensure alignment and address any integration challenges early on. Effective communication and a collaborative mindset are crucial for successfully delivering complex integration solutions.

What are Integration Developers?

Integration Developers are IT professionals who design, build, and maintain systems that allow different software applications to work together seamlessly. They create and manage APIs, middleware, and other integration solutions to ensure data flows smoothly between platforms within an organization. Their work helps automate business processes, enhance productivity, and support digital transformation efforts. Integration Developers often collaborate with software engineers, business analysts, and stakeholders to understand requirements and deliver effective connectivity solutions.

Job description

PIPELINE INTELLIGENCE GROUP

Beaumont–Port Arthur–Liberty, TX Corridor | Remote Considered for Exceptional Candidates

Senior OT Systems Integration Engineer

Co-Founder Track | Equity + Compensation | Full-Time

IMPORTANT: This role requires hands-on OPC-UA and SCADA experience. IT networking backgrounds will not be considered.

About Pipeline Intelligence Group

Pipeline Intelligence Group (PIG) is an early-stage industrial AI company deploying edge-based anomaly detection and real-time monitoring systems for midstream pipeline operators. Our platform fuses live SCADA data with external intelligence feeds — NOAA weather, USGS seismic, wildfire perimeter data, and 811 dig-alert notifications — processed locally on NVIDIA Jetson edge hardware with AI reasoning layered on top.

We are currently focused on the Beaumont–Port Arthur–Liberty, Texas pipeline corridor and are seeking a technical co-founder to own our operational technology integration stack from the ground up.

The Role

This is not a corporate IT position. You will be the person who physically connects our edge hardware to active pipeline SCADA systems, configures read-only OPC-UA data feeds, validates sensor data integrity, and ensures our platform speaks the same language as the RTUs, PLCs, and DCS controllers running in the field.

You will work directly with the founder and be the first technical hire. Your fingerprints will be on the architecture from day one.

Core Responsibilities

  • Design and implement read-only OPC-UA client connections to pipeline operator SCADA systems (Ignition, Wonderware, OSIsoft PI, or equivalent)
  • Configure and validate data ingestion from RTUs and PLCs using industrial protocols including OPC-UA, Modbus TCP/RTU, and DNP3
  • Deploy and commission NVIDIA Jetson Orin edge hardware at or near pipeline operator facilities
  • Integrate edge AI inference layer (local LLM on Ollama) with SCADA data streams via our OpenClaw orchestration framework
  • Develop and maintain OPC-UA node browsing, tag mapping, and data normalization pipelines
  • Coordinate with pipeline operator control room staff and IT/OT teams to establish secure, non-intrusive parallel data feeds
  • Validate data quality, sensor health, and alarm state accuracy against PHMSA Integrity Management Program requirements
  • Build out documentation covering integration architecture, tag dictionaries, and operator configuration templates

Non-Negotiable Requirements

If you cannot answer yes to each of the following, this role is not for you:

  • 3+ years of hands-on OPC-UA implementation experience (client configuration, node browsing, tag mapping, server connectivity)
  • Direct experience with SCADA platforms — Ignition (Inductive Automation), Wonderware/AVEVA, OSIsoft PI, FactoryTalk, or equivalent
  • Field experience with industrial control systems: RTUs, PLCs, or DCS in pipeline, oil & gas, utilities, water/wastewater, or heavy manufacturing environments
  • Proficiency with at least one additional industrial protocol beyond OPC-UA (Modbus TCP/RTU, DNP3, Profibus, EtherNet/IP, or similar)
  • Ability to read and interpret P&IDs, instrument datasheets, and control system architecture drawings
  • Understanding of IT/OT network segmentation, DMZ architecture, and read-only data historian concepts

Strongly Preferred

  • Experience in midstream pipeline operations, natural gas transmission, or petroleum liquid transport
  • Familiarity with PHMSA 49 CFR Part 192/195 Integrity Management Program requirements
  • Experience with edge computing hardware deployment in industrial environments (ruggedized hardware, DIN rail mounting, field enclosures)
  • Linux administration skills (Ubuntu) for edge hardware configuration and maintenance
  • Exposure to AI/ML inference at the edge, MQTT, or time-series data platforms (InfluxDB, OSIsoft PI)
  • ISA/IEC 62443 cybersecurity awareness for industrial control systems

What We Offer

  • Co-founder designation with meaningful equity stake — you are building this with us, not for us
  • Competitive base compensation commensurate with experience
  • Ground-floor opportunity in a company purpose-built for a $50B+ underserved industrial AI market
  • Direct access to pipeline operator customers from day one — no layers of bureaucracy
  • Work that matters: pipeline safety, environmental protection, and regulatory compliance

Who Should Not Apply

We respect your time. Please do not apply if your background is primarily in:

  • Enterprise IT networking, helpdesk, or end-user support
  • Cloud infrastructure, DevOps, or data engineering without OT/SCADA experience
  • Corporate cybersecurity without industrial control system context
  • Software development without fieldwork in operational technology environments

How to Apply

Send your resume and a brief note (3–5 sentences) describing a specific OPC-UA or SCADA integration project you led or contributed to — what the system was, what protocols were involved, and what you personally built or configured. Generic applications without this context will not be reviewed.

Pipeline Intelligence Group is an equal opportunity employer.
