Job description

POSITION SUMMARY:
In alignment with Starfish's Blueprint for Brighter Futures, the Education Coach will assist educators and support staff in identifying area(s) of need to achieve high quality programming as it relates to curriculum implementation and best practices in child development. The Education Coach supports teachers on an on-going basis, based on need, through the implementation of evidence-informed coaching practices and an integrated coaching model.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
  • Bachelor's degree in the field of early childhood education, child and family development, curriculum development or related field required. Master's degree in related field is preferred.
  • Minimum three years of experience in early childhood teaching, working with families.
  • Minimum two years of staff training experience.
  • Classroom Assessment Scoring System (CLASS) experience preferred.
  • Experience with any of the following curricula highly preferred. Connect4Learning, Creative Curriculum and Great First Eight

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Provide on-site instructional support and mentor-coaching to teaching teams.
  • Provide support and guidance to program staff regarding curriculum, child assessment, teacher assessment, childcare licensing, and high-quality daily program implementation.
  • Plan and implement individual and team coaching experiences with teaching teams based on individual/team's needs, experience, and goals.
  • Support the implementation of the professional development strategy.
  • Collaborate with evaluation and program leadership to evaluate program effectiveness and develop strategies for sustainability and improvement.
  • Utilize data and other information to support coaching and mentoring for classroom teaching staff and to plan professional development.
  • Administer program quality and teacher assessments in classrooms and provide support for sharing and using data for continuous quality improvement.
  • Collaborate with Education Supervisor to plan professional development methods, approaches, and venues.
  • Review Early Childhood Education teaching team lesson plans to identify opportunities for coaching and/or professional development.
  • Review classroom level child assessment data with teaching teams for continuous quality improvement.

COMPETENCIES AND ABILITIES:
  • Interact and communicate effectively with individuals from different cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds.
  • Must be able to work independently with minimal supervision and communicate effectively in oral/written form.
  • Ability to react with flexibility and sensitivity to changing situations and needs.
  • Establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work assignment, while interacting with educators in the classroom environment.

LICENSING AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS:
  • Must have a valid State of Michigan driver's license and willingness to travel locally using own transportation to conduct work assignments.
