Job description

Overview

We are seeking a Nursery Registered Nurse, also referred to as our Newborn Nursery Nurse or Postnatal Nurse. The Nursery Registered Nurse provides specialized care to newborn infants in the newborn nursery, typically within the first few hours to days of life. Their primary goal is to ensure the health, safety, and well-being of newborns, and to support new parents in early infant care. 

Shift's Available: Days

Employment Type: Per Diem 

Hours: 12hr options - 7:00 am to 7:00 pm 

Location: Dallas Regional Medical Center - Mesquite, TX  

Responsibilities

Essential Duties and Responsibilities (includes, but not limited to): 

  • Perform newborn assessments immediately after birth including Apgar scoring, vital signs, weight, and measurements while monitoring for signs of distress, infection, jaundice, or feeding issues 
  • Administer medications and vaccinations while providing basic hygiene care such as bathing, diapering, cord care, swaddling, and temperature regulation 
  • Support breastfeeding or formula feeding by educating and assisting mothers and monitoring intake and output 
  • Document newborn care accurately and communicate with pediatricians, OB nurses, and lactation consultants 
  • Educate parents on newborn care including feeding, bathing, safe sleep, and signs of illness while offering emotional support 
  • Respond to neonatal emergencies and assist with resuscitation or transfer to the NICU when needed 
Qualifications

Before we go any further, we do have some deal-breakers. You must have: 

  • Must have current and valid license as a Registered Nurse issued by the State.
  • BCLS upon hire and maintain current.
  • NRP within 30 days of hire and maintain current
