Intake Registered Nurse (PRN)
Perimeter Behavioral Hospital of Dallas โ€“ Garland, TX

Perimeter Behavioral Hospital of Dallas is a premier behavioral health facility providing inpatient psychiatric treatment for adolescents, adults, and senior adults. Located on 22 peaceful acres in Garland, Texas, our campus offers a serene, supportive, and empowering environment for healing. Position Summary
The Intake Registered Nurse (RN) plays a vital role in the admissions process, managing inbound calls, coordinating referrals, and ensuring timely patient placement. This role requires strong clinical assessment skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work with urgency in a fast-paced environment. The Intake RN also collaborates with leadership to support departmental goals and process improvements.


Essential Responsibilities
  • Receive referral calls, gather demographic information, and route or schedule assessments appropriately
  • Process requests for information and manage external referrals
  • Complete pre-certifications as required
  • Coordinate patient admissions, including communication with physicians and internal departments
  • Initiate insurance verification and collaborate with the business office
  • Determine and process necessary Releases of Information (ROI) in accordance with policy
  • Assist in obtaining medical records and supporting documentation
  • Coordinate patient disposition and community resource planning
  • Communicate effectively with Treatment Coordinators and interdisciplinary teams
  • Maintain accurate call logs, statistics, and outcome data reporting
  • Support utilization review and collaborate across departments
  • Deliver excellent customer service and maintain professional relationships

Clinical Responsibilities
  • Conduct patient assessments and contribute to diagnostic evaluations
  • Provide direct patient care, including assessment and treatment interventions (approximately 85% of role)
  • Complete clinical documentation and participate in supervision activities
  • Work with adult and senior populations, demonstrating knowledge of common diagnoses and age-specific assessment techniques

Qualifications
  • Active Registered Nurse (RN) license in the State of Texas (required)
  • Experience in behavioral health assessment and/or treatment
  • Minimum of one (1) year experience in an acute behavioral health setting preferred

Physical & Work Requirements
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively with staff, physicians, and leadership
  • Capable of sitting, standing, and walking for extended periods
  • Ability to bend, kneel, reach, and perform routine physical movements as needed
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, including documentation and presentations
  • Ability to remain calm and effective in high-pressure situations
  • Adequate vision, hearing, and sensory awareness for patient care and safety
  • Manual dexterity for operating office and clinical equipment
