What is insurtech sales?

Insurtech Sales refers to the process of selling insurance products and services that are enhanced or enabled by technology innovations. Professionals in this field work with digital platforms, data analytics, and other tech-driven tools to connect customers with insurance solutions more efficiently. Their role often involves educating clients about new insurance technologies, streamlining the purchasing process, and fostering relationships with both traditional insurers and tech startups. Insurtech salespeople need a strong understanding of both insurance fundamentals and the latest technological trends in the industry.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an insurtech sales professional?

To thrive as an Insurtech Sales professional, you need a strong understanding of insurance products, industry trends, and sales techniques, often supported by a bachelor’s degree in business, finance, or a related field. Familiarity with CRM platforms, digital sales tools, and insurtech software solutions is essential for managing leads and demonstrating product value. Excellent communication, relationship-building, and adaptability are crucial soft skills that help foster trust and respond to evolving client needs. These competencies enable sales professionals to effectively connect innovative technology with customer requirements, driving growth in a competitive market.

What are some common challenges faced in an insurtech sales role, and how can they be addressed?

A common challenge in Insurtech Sales is navigating the fast-paced evolution of insurance technology and effectively communicating its value to clients who may be unfamiliar with digital solutions. Sales professionals often need to stay updated on industry trends, regulatory changes, and emerging competitors. Building trust with traditional insurance clients and demonstrating how technology can improve efficiency or customer experience is essential. Collaboration with product, marketing, and technical teams is key to providing tailored solutions and ensuring client needs are met.

Job description

TrustLayer is a B2B insurtech SaaS platform that automates certificate of insurance (COI) verification and vendor compliance for businesses that manage risk across large vendor and subcontractor networks. We've grown to ~$8M ARR, serve roughly 1,000 customers, and process compliance for 400,000+ connected vendor parties. We're a lean, technical team, and we build fast.
The Role
We're looking for a Technical Marketing Coordinator who wants to learn growth marketing by actually doing it - building things, shipping them, and watching the numbers move. You'll work directly with our Marketing Manager and VP of Marketing to execute the campaigns, tools, and community programs that turn technical insight into pipeline.
This is an early-career role with an unusual amount of hands-on building. You won't be scheduling other people's meetings or formatting other people's decks. You'll be prototyping AI-powered lead magnets, keeping our practitioner community humming, and pulling the reports that tell us what's working. If you want to learn modern, AI-native marketing from the inside of a fast-moving team, this is that job.
What You'll Do
  • Build with AI tools. Help prototype and ship interactive tools, calculators, and content assets - using AI tooling (Claude, no-code/low-code builders) to move from idea to live asset fast. You'll build under direction at first; the goal is that within months you're shipping smaller assets end to end.
  • Own the day-to-day community. Run our community channels (Slack, LinkedIn, forums) as your turf: welcoming new members, seeding discussions, coordinating programming, and surfacing product feedback to the team. This is the one area where you own it outright from day one.
  • Support the content engine. Format, publish, and distribute content across blog, email, and social; maintain the editorial calendar; handle campaign execution in HubSpot (lists, emails, landing pages, workflows).
  • Learn the product and help translate it. Work with product and sales to turn technical capabilities (COI parsing, compliance automation, vendor risk scoring) into marketing assets that resonate with a technical, ROI-focused buyer - one-pagers, FAQ content, demo support materials. You'll draft with direction at first; the goal is that the translation increasingly becomes yours.
  • Pull the numbers. Maintain dashboards and pull weekly reports on funnel performance, engagement, and campaign results. You'll learn what the metrics mean and, over time, start spotting the stories in them yourself.
  • Coordinate events and partner campaigns. Handle logistics and asset preparation for industry events and co-marketing campaigns - speaker prep materials, campaign kits, follow-up sequences.
  • Run experiments. Execute the tests the team designs - new formats, channels, and AI-assisted workflows - and track results cleanly so we know what to kill and what to double down on.

What We're Looking For
  • 1-3 years of marketing experience (agency, in-house, internships, or serious side projects - show us what you've made)
  • Evidence that you build things: a portfolio, a newsletter, a community you grew, a tool you made with AI or no-code platforms - anything shipped beats everything theoretical
  • You love owning communities: you've built, grown, or moderated one (professional, hobby, Discord, subreddit - the venue matters less than the instinct) and you get genuine energy from keeping people engaged and coming back
  • Genuine curiosity about AI tools and a habit of trying them: you've already used ChatGPT or Claude to make something real, not just answer questions
  • Comfort with numbers: you can work in a spreadsheet without fear and want to get better at analytics
  • Strong writing fundamentals: clear, correct, and concise
  • Organized and reliable: you keep multiple workstreams moving and nothing falls through the cracks
  • Bonus: familiarity with HubSpot, SEO basics, or design/video tools
  • Bonus: interest in insurance, compliance, construction, or vendor-risk industries

Why TrustLayer
  • Real building from day one - your work ships and you see the impact in the numbers within weeks, not quarters
  • Learn directly from experienced marketers on a small team where there's nowhere to hide and no busywork to hide behind
  • A technical product with a genuinely interesting problem space (insurance + compliance + automation)
  • A clear growth path: this role is designed to grow into a Specialist role as you take on end-to-end ownership

Location: Remote (Eastern or Central Time Zones)
