Job description

Job Title: Controls Technician
Job Location: Elkridge MD

Salary Range: $30-45 hourly
About:
We are seeking a highly motivated controls technician to assist in startup and servicing of critical environment air flow control systems. These systems provide safe ventilation, air quality monitoring and precise temperature control in research laboratories, educational laboratories and clean production facilities.
 
The systems consist of highly specialized airflow control components which control air flow through supply and exhaust air devices and are networked to a central computer. The successful candidate will be trained in the startup, checkout and troubleshooting of these systems. Startup consists of powering on the equipment, downloading software from a pre-constructed database, performing calibration based on specific project requirements and then verifying that all components are communicating and functioning properly. Checkout will be a point to point verification of the system functionality.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Programming & Configuration: Program, modify, and commission Direct Digital Control (DDC) systems and configure graphics, schedules, and trend logs.
  • System Commissioning: Perform onsite point-to-point checkout, sequence verification, and functional performance testing.
  • Troubleshooting & Repair: Diagnose and resolve network issues, faulty sensors, and mechanical HVAC failures.
  • System Integration: Integrate third-party equipment using protocols such as BACnet, Modbus, and LonWorks.
  • Client Support: Train building operators and facility staff on system functionality and provide technical support. 

Experience and Requirements:
  • Technical Skills: Strong understanding of low-voltage electrical schematics and control wiring diagrams.
  • Software Knowledge: Proficiency in platforms like Tridium Niagara, Johnson Controls, Siemens, or Honeywell.
  • HVAC Fundamentals: Solid grasp of mechanical HVAC systems, VAV, AHUs.
  • Education & Experience: Typically requires 1-3 years of hands-on BAS experience, often supported by a vocational degree or relevant trade certifications.
