Overview:

SageSure, a leader in catastrophe-exposed property insurance, is seeking a Commercial Underwriter who is analytically minded, hands-on and a self-starter who has a deep understanding of commercial businessowners coverage and risk. This individual will make risk decisions based on a thorough analysis of exposures using various underwriting tools. The daily activities including the handling of new business risk referrals, underwriting renewals, reviewing, and making decisions from reports (property inspections/loss reports), all with customer centric agency interaction.
What you'd be doing:
  • Review new and renewal business from our referral system.
  • Approve or deny requests to bind.
  • Review property inspection reports and take appropriate underwriting action.
  • Handle and manage phone calls and written inquiries from agents and referrals from support vendors.
  • Regularly analyzes market conditions to learn and understand the coastal states commercial insurance environment we serve.
  • Uses knowledge of the insurance industry to recommend innovation and/or new product or service offerings.
  • Communicate with IT to resolve agency system related issues.
  • Deep understanding of commercial insurance practices and regulations to analyze risk eligibility, evaluate prior incurred claims, and make appropriate risk-based decisions using sound underwriting judgement.
  • Demonstrate successful agency and broker management, including building, maintaining, and managing producer and customer relationships.
  • Complete ad-hoc projects as assigned.

We're looking for someone who has:
  • Minimum four (4) to six (6) years' underwriting experience in commercial lines
  • Must demonstrate a strong working knowledge of commercial line underwriting procedures and insurance coverage.
  • Demonstrated ability to interpret and analyze data and make an informed, calculated risk decision.
  • Exceptional verbal and written communicator
  • Customer service orientated.
  • Thrives in a fast-paced, changing environment.
  • Comfortable with working under minimal supervision
  • Possess a strong work ethic and can work individually or as part of a team.
  • A college degree or equivalent experience and education
  • Experience working directly with customers, insurance producers, and agents.
  • Experience working with insurance software and MS Office Suite.

Highly preferred candidates also have:
  • Bachelor's degree in related field.
  • Insurance industry designations.
