What is insurance product management?

Insurance product management is the process of developing, launching, and overseeing insurance products such as policies and coverage plans. Product managers in this field analyze market trends, assess customer needs, and collaborate with underwriting, actuarial, and marketing teams to create competitive insurance offerings. They are responsible for the entire lifecycle of an insurance product, ensuring it remains profitable and compliant with industry regulations. Their work helps insurance companies adapt to changing markets and deliver value to their clients.

How does an insurance product manager typically collaborate with underwriting, sales, and actuarial teams?

Insurance Product Managers work closely with underwriting teams to ensure products align with risk appetite and compliance requirements, while collaborating with actuarial teams to analyze data and set competitive pricing strategies. They also partner with sales and marketing to support product launches and gather feedback to refine offerings. Regular cross-functional meetings and project teams are common, as effective communication among these departments is essential for developing successful insurance products. This collaborative environment not only enhances product quality but also helps build a comprehensive understanding of the entire product lifecycle.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an insurance product manager, and why are they important?

Job description

Clozd is the leader in Decision Intelligence, helping companies uncover the truth by capturing direct feedback throughout the customer journey.

We believe most revenue organizations are operating without the full picture. CRM and call data only tell part of the story. Clozd delivers the missing truth layer, giving executives the insights they need to improve win rates, retention, and growth.

We need team members who can tackle ambiguity, solve complex problems, and delight customers. We hire dynamic employees who take initiative, find ways to simplify and scale, possess strong interpersonal and communication skills, value humility and learning, crave a fast-paced startup environment, and never compromise their integrity.

As a senior product manager, you will be responsible for setting the product vision and strategy and driving execution for a key segment of Clozd’s business. This is a high‑autonomy, high‑impact role where you’ll own key business metrics and work directly with cross‑functional leadership, engineers, and designers to drive those metrics through innovation.

What You’ll Own and Do:
  • Product vision and strategy: Work closely with leadership to define, communicate, and implement a cohesive vision for the platform that will help our clients easily achieve their goals and help Clozd meet our business objectives.

  • Roadmap and delivery: Develop and maintain a detailed product roadmap. Prioritize features and initiatives based on customer needs, business goals, and resource constraints. Write clear product requirements and work closely with engineering and design to ensure timely delivery.

  • Product operating model: Help implement a system that enables Clozd to ship impactful features and products as quickly as possible.

  • AI adoption: Create and maintain AI tools and systems that automate the product development process at Clozd, and be an expert on the best practices for using AI in your field.

  • Market and Customer Research: Conduct user research, analyze feedback, and gather insights to identify market trends and customer pain points. Become an expert and thought leader in our domain and industry.

  • Go‑to‑Market Strategy: Collaborate with marketing and sales teams to create and execute strategies for product launches, including messaging, positioning, and pricing.

Key Skills and Qualifications:
  • A scrappy, ownership‑driven mindset - you thrive in a startup environment where you’re building the plane while flying it. You hold yourself and others to a high standard of accountability.

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills - you can present your work, explain your rationale, and influence without authority. We feel confident putting you in front of cross‑functional leaders and clients.

  • 3‑5 years of experience in product management or a similar role; preferably with experience building enterprise‑grade software, AI‑enabled features, and zero‑to‑one products.

  • AI Power User - experience using AI tools to accelerate every stage of product work - conducting research, analyzing data, defining product requirements, prototyping, etc.

  • Customer obsessed - you are experienced collecting in‑depth feedback from customers at every stage of the product development lifecycle, and you ship products that delight customers and help them achieve their goals.

  • Strong data analysis skills - you use data to make and defend decisions and focus on influencing the metrics that matter most for the business.

Benefits:
  • Competitive compensation (i.e. salary, bonus, 401k, and equity)
  • Majority of medical, dental, disability, life, and other insurance paid
  • Unlimited PTO with a boss that encourages taking time off and using PTO to recharge
  • 10 paid holidays and company shutdown between Christmas and New Years
  • Weekly catered lunches, stocked kitchens, quarterly company/department activities, maternity/paternity leave, EAP program, etc.
