Job description

Overview

Reports to Operations Supervisor

Plans, organizes and coordinates the scheduling and routing of shipments for which the company assumes responsibility, affects company costs and customer satisfaction. Controls and dispatches economically to achieve profit goals.

This individual manages Household Goods service crews engaged in pick up and delivery services. Resolves minor service crew and customer service problems. Statuses orders in a timely manner to reflect accurate status and visibility.

Responsibilities

  • Execute shipment plans within the scope of branch operations and United Van Lines.
  • Establish and maintain control of all drivers operating in designated area.
  • Rating and memoing of previous day’s paperwork.
  • Timely status of all orders in the computer as required.
  • Ensuring Household Goods driver’s paperwork is complete, accurate and accounted for on a daily basis.
  • Plan next day’s route/orders, complete all pre-calls (24-hour notice).
  • Assign vehicles and equipment to proper personnel.
  • Maintain records and audit driver’s logs and performance in conjunction with Operations Manager.
  • Assist in maintaining vehicle, records, repairs, services and mileages.
  • Ensure work assignments are staffed with adequate crews to accomplish objectives and to insure customer satisfaction.
  • Inform Customer Service representatives of any problems regarding an order immediately.
  • Keep an open mind to Sales needs and current market conditions.
  • Maintain excellent communications with Household Goods customers scheduling and timeliness.
  • Review and approve Household Goods system crew time cards and expenses.
  • Investigate, analyze causes of damage to shipments and take corrective action.
  • Interface with Accounting Department to solve paperwork and/or rating problems.
  • Maintain, achieve company goals and ratios in accordance to revenue and expenses.
  • Control warehouse labor in conjunction with Operations Manager.
  • Insure warehouse is maintained in a clean and neat fashion at all times.
  • Maintain accounts and warehouse storage records.
  • Enforce Company policies, take corrective and disciplinary action as required/needed.

Education

  • A Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Experience

  • A minimum 3-5 years’ experience desired
  • Dispatch experience required
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Detail and customer service oriented
  • Competent computer skills, including Microsoft Office Suite and Google G Suite
  • Candidate must be able to communicate effectively at all levels of the organization
  • Must be organized
  • Proven track record of working in a team environment and autonomously
