Job description

The Operations Manager is responsible for overseeing day to day operations of transfer stations within the defined market area to ensure compliance with all company, federal, and state regulations. The incumbent will travel to locations daily to provide support and perform quality control checks to ensure safety and efficiency in daily procedures. The individual is expected to be prepared and willing to assist in daily operations as needed.

Hiring Range: $85,000-$90,000/ annually


  • Creates schedules for designated transfer station locations to ensure proper staffing and coverage.
  • Provides training to employees of transfer station and scale house operations to ensure efficiency in everyday procedures and accuracy in daily uploads.
  • Maintains a manual containing frequently used shortcuts and charge codes, recognizes errors and evaluates the reason for errors in an effort to establish proficient use of the software used.
  • Creates daily, weekly, and monthly reports as needed to support needs for the sales department and management.
  • Performs a quality control check on outbound PC sales tickets and associated work orders.
  • Provides training to scale house employees of how to properly record inbound weight for all customers to ensure proper billing and outbound weight for all trucks to ensure overweight trucks aren’t leaving the transfer station.
  • Collaborates with other departments across the company to deliver necessary information and ensure processes are completed efficiently.
  • Manages and provides leadership to team members by effectively communicating, establishing clear goals and objectives, coaching team members on achieving goals, and ensuring access to training and development opportunities that assist employees in attaining the necessary skills to achieve desired team and corporate results.
  • Participates in training and other learning opportunities to expand knowledge of the company, products, sales, and services while performing any other duties needed to help drive our vision, fulfill our mission, and/or abide by our core values.
  • Ensures compliance with all company, state, and federal policies, regulations, and laws regarding employment and employee safety.

The successful candidate will have a high school diploma or GED, 3-5 years of management experience, and previous experience in logistics or solid waste operations. The incumbent is expected to have a demonstrated ability to work as part of a team in a collaborative environment. A valid driver’s license and an ability to travel between locations 90% of the time is necessary.

Outstanding relationship management skills, a general knowledge of DOT regulations, and operational knowledge of municipal contracts are required. Excellent listening, communication, problem solving, and organizational skills, along with an ability to prioritize is expected.

Although not required, an Associates or Bachelor’s degree in business or logistics and a Scale Master license are preferred.
