The Weitz Company is seeking a Marketing Director to be located out of our corporate office in Des Moines, IA. This candidate will lead all Marketing functions throughout the United States. Business travel is required up to 25% for this position.
The Marketing Director leads the execution of marketing, communications, and public relations initiatives that support business development and growth objectives. This role partners closely with Business Development and Business Unit leaders to support priority pursuits through proposal strategy, presales marketing, targeted digital campaigns, and demand-generation efforts. The Marketing Director ensures consistent brand execution across product lines, subsidiary entities and local offices, manages and develops marketing staff, and tracks performance metrics to evaluate effectiveness and return on marketing investments. This role has direct and indirect supervisory responsibility for marketing personnel and reports to the Executive Vice President of Strategy Execution.
What You'll Do Every Day:
  • Lead and manage the Marketing team, providing day-to-day direction for shared services and direct reports, coaching, and performance oversight while effectively working within a matrixed organization.

  • Collaborate with Business Development and Business Unit leaders to plan and execute product-line and local-office marketing initiatives, including RFP strategy, proposal development, and presales marketing support.

  • Implement and maintain brand standards and marketing plans across company entities, ensuring consistent application across digital and traditional channels.

  • Plan and execute digital marketing efforts, including targeted campaigns, social media strategy, and presales initiatives that support business development goals.

  • Oversee development of marketing tools and content, including video and presentation assets, to support proposals, interviews, and other marketing needs.

  • Establish and track performance metrics, monitoring results and reporting on effectiveness and return on marketing investments.

  • Lead external communications and public relations, serving as the primary media contact, identifying spokespersons, and overseeing PR and crisis management strategies.

  • Manage internal and external relationships, working with Human Resources, vendors, media partners, and marketing peers to support communication and marketing initiatives.

What We're Looking For:
  • Education: A college degree in Marketing, Public Relations, Communications or Business Management is required. An equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered.

  • Experience: A minimum of ten (10) years of marketing and communications experience is required. Involvement in public relations and previous construction experience preferred, but not required.

  • Skills: A qualified candidate will demonstrate initiative, independent judgment, influence, project management and analytical skills. They should also demonstrate strong negotiation, leadership, business acumen, business relationships, and decision-making abilities. Experience in selection and management of external marketing and communications consultants and vendors is required.

  • Technology: Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Outlook, PowerPoint) and Adobe InDesign, with the ability to learn other specific software. Execution history of SEO improvements, digital marketing campaigns, web analytics and external marketing measurement tools is required.
