Commercial Lines Marketing Specialist


Position Summary:


The Commercial Lines Marketing Specialist plays a critical role in the commercial insurance placement process by marketing new and renewal business to carrier partners, securing competitive coverage solutions, and supporting the agency's sales and retention objectives. This position serves as the primary liaison between the agency and insurance carriers throughout the marketing process, working collaboratively with producers, account managers, and underwriters to develop strategic insurance programs that meet client needs. The Marketing Specialist is responsible for evaluating carrier options, negotiating favorable terms, and ensuring accurate, timely, and compliant submissions.


Key Responsibilities:


Marketing and Placement

  • Market new and renewal commercial insurance accounts to carrier partners, ensuring timely and effective placement of business.
  • Prepare, review, and submit complete insurance applications and supporting documentation to carriers.
  • Analyze client exposures, coverage needs, and underwriting requirements to identify appropriate carrier markets and insurance solutions.
  • Review carrier quotations, compare coverage, pricing, and terms, and recommend the most competitive and comprehensive options.
  • Negotiate pricing, coverage enhancements, and underwriting terms with carrier representatives to achieve favorable outcomes for clients.


Carrier Relationship Management

  • Develop and maintain strong working relationships with carrier underwriters and marketing representatives.
  • Maintain current knowledge of carrier appetites, underwriting guidelines, product offerings, and marketplace conditions.
  • Identify alternative markets and placement strategies for difficult-to-place or unique risks.
  • Communicate carrier feedback, underwriting concerns, and placement updates to producers and account management teams.


Collaboration and Client Support

  • Partner with producers and account managers to gather underwriting information and ensure complete, accurate submissions.
  • Assist in developing client proposals by providing coverage comparisons, pricing analyses, and carrier recommendations.
  • Support new business opportunities by identifying marketing strategies that maximize competitiveness and coverage.
  • Work collaboratively to resolve coverage questions, underwriting issues, and policy discrepancies prior to binding coverage.


Operational Excellence and Compliance

  • Ensure all marketing activities comply with agency procedures, carrier guidelines, and applicable insurance regulations.
  • Maintain accurate documentation of marketing activities, carrier communications, and placement decisions within the agency management system.
  • Continuously monitor industry trends, emerging coverages, and marketplace changes to enhance placement strategies and client solutions.


Qualifications:


  • High school diploma required; Associate or Bachelor’s Degree desired.
  • Current Indiana Property & Casualty License required.
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in commercial lines marketing, account management, or underwriting.
  • Strong working knowledge of commercial insurance coverages, underwriting principles, and carrier guidelines.
  • Demonstrated ability to evaluate coverage options and recommend appropriate insurance solutions.
  • Excellent negotiation and relationship-building skills with carriers and internal stakeholders.
  • Experience working with multiple insurance carriers and wholesale markets.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft 365 applications, including Outlook, Word, Excel, Teams, and OneDrive.
  • Experience with agency management systems, preferably Applied Epic or AMS360.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving abilities.
  • Exceptional attention to detail with a commitment to accuracy and quality.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to pass a criminal background check, as permitted by law


Hours: Monday – Friday, 8:00am to 5:00pm


Main Office Location: 345 Massachusetts Avenue, Suite 250, Indianapolis, IN 46204


Work Options: This position is eligible for a hybrid work schedule for candidates who reside within a commutable distance of a McGowan office. Candidates who reside elsewhere in Indiana may be considered for a fully remote work arrangement.
