The Director Warranty Data Governance is a critical role within the division of US Warranty that will report directly into the Head of Underwriting US Warranty, General Insurance. The role is responsible for the governance, oversight, and management of all data related activities for Warranty North America including training and development of the data subject matter experts and data stewards committee, oversight of data controls and quality of data, report development, and matters related to business intelligence. The position ensures that all Warranty Operations adheres to the General Insurance data governance bulletins, standards, policies, procedures, and guidelines while operating within approved limits and best practices for the Warranty data operating model.
The candidate is responsible for leading a team of data analysts with cross-functional team oversight. The successful candidate should have previous experience in leading a team of data analysts, supporting offshore or near shore teams, and have influence over operational units to support the enterprise. This position will oversee the Warranty data operations and business intelligence strategy for a high transactional business unit within the General Insurance business unit at AIG. The successful candidate will meet the following criteria:

  • Previously led a data support and business intelligence team or teams or have other translatable data management experience.
  • Provide input into the general operating budget process and IT budget strategy.
  • Fiscally responsible for both creating and adhering to operational budgets and ROI tracking.
  • Maintain and provide expertise in data strategy efforts including data warehousing, data lakes, or other data storage and recall techniques.
  • Manage day-to-day data operations including data management support tickets and other reporting or business intelligence needs.
  • Train and mentor team and business units on best practices for driving a culture of data excellence.
  • Participate in business reviews as-needed with clients and senior leadership.
  • Proactively identify data and process improvements.
  • Make recommendations to bring about efficiency and change.
  • Maintain good working relationship with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Focus on continuous improvement to offer the best-in-class service.
  • Strong communication skills.
  • Perform additional managerial and leadership duties as assigned.

What you'll need to succeed
  • Strong working PC knowledge - Microsoft Word, Excel, Access, Outlook, Power Point and Visio.
  • Can apply systems thinking to generate solutions, focus on process rather than isolated events to identify root cause, and evaluate alternative solutions.
  • Exhibit a "can-do" attitude approach and inspire others to excel.
  • Prior experience and an understanding of digitization and technology transformation.
  • Able to perform in a fast-paced environment and perform a wide variety of tasks and change focus quickly as internal and external demands change.
  • Understands virtual and remote management best practices.
  • Experience with cloud data and AI ecosystems (Azure, AWS, and CoPilot) and common platforms/tools (Snowflake, SSRS, Power BI, and SSAS).
  • Familiarity with Data Governance and Responsible AI practices (e.g., data quality, privacy, security, data modeling, etc)
  • Understanding of Warranty or Insurance products is strongly recommended.
  • Previous experience in supporting internal and external data audits.
  • Understanding of technology product delivery and product roadmaps.
  • Ability to process map, document, and build models/presentations of current and future state data strategies.
  • Advanced understanding of data gathering and manipulation is preferred.
  • Has previously led on and offshore data teams.
  • Advanced to expert experience with SQL, PowerBI, SSAS, SSRS, AWS Cloud, SharePoint, Teams, and other relevant tools and environments
  • Master's degree in Business, Information Technology, Data Sciences or Analytics, or other related fields is preferred.
  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Information Technology, Data Sciences or Analytics, or other related fields is required.
  • A proven track record of five years or more in leadership
  • Equivalent work experience of five years or more will be considered in lieu of educational requirement.
