Hinshaw also serves as counsel to the professional services sector, and provides business advisory and transactional services to clients of all sizes.

What You Will Do (Overview)

The Litigation Legal Secretary will provide legal and administrative support to a diverse group of attorneys. It is an excellent opportunity to work with a talented group of professionals in our Houston office. This position requires a self-motivated, resourceful, and collaborative individual.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Document production and file management
  • Draft, proofread, and edit correspondence and legal documents
  • E-Files in State and Federal courts
  • Client interaction/communication with clients, courts, and attorneys
  • Legal calendaring via Compulaw and other electronic court rule programs
  • Management of multiple calendars, appointments, and travel arrangements
  • Preparation of travel/expense reimbursements
  • Updates and maintains databases (i.e., e-mail lists, client matter lists)
  • Opens, reads, and sorts all incoming mail.
  • Oversees the new client/matter opening process for assigned attorneys

Minimum Requirements & Experience

  • High school diploma or GED; Bachelor's degree preferred
  • Five or more years of experience as a litigation secretary working with multiple attorneys and matters
  • Strong understanding of litigation procedures and familiarity with all legal documents (pleadings, motions, and discovery)
  • Proficiency with e-filing in administrative, state, and federal courts
  • Strong skills in word processing and proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Outlook,  Excel & PowerPoint); Adobe Acrobat;  iManage or similar software; Chrome River; timekeeping programs
  • Knowledge of consumer finance a plus. 
  • Knowledge of court rules and civil procedures in Texas is a plus
