Job description
The AIC (https://www.abcouncil.ab.ca/) is an industry-funded, Crown-controlled regulatory organization. The AIC regulates Alberta’s insurance industry, supporting more than 50,000 licensees and issuing over 94,000 licenses annually across the second-largest insurance jurisdiction in Canada. We are committed to regulatory excellence, public protection, and fostering a culture of compliance across Alberta’s insurance industry.
This is an office-based position located in Calgary.
THE IDEAL CANDIDATE
The AIC is seeking a detail-oriented and service-focused Examination & Education Coordinator to lead the governance, delivery, and continuous improvement of Alberta's insurance licensing examination programs, and provide backup support to our accreditation program.
You enjoy working with policy, process, analysis, and program development within a regulatory environment where consistency, fairness, accuracy, and accountability are critical. You are comfortable balancing operational responsibilities with strategic thinking, whether reviewing accommodation requests, enhancing examination procedures, analyzing examination results, or improving proctoring and security processes.
You build strong relationships with stakeholders, communicate professionally, and approach challenges with a continuous improvement mindset. You thrive in environments where your work has a direct impact on professional standards, public confidence, and consumer protection.
This role is ideal for someone who enjoys coordinating complex programs, developing and maintaining operational frameworks, and ensuring examination and education programs remain effective, secure, and aligned with regulatory requirements.
The Team
The Education team is responsible for managing all examination, education, and accreditation activities that support the licensing and continuing education of insurance professionals in Alberta. The team supports the fair administration of examinations, ensures education programs meet regulatory standards, and evaluates the quality and compliance of accredited course providers and their programs. Through this work, the team plays a vital role in upholding professional standards and protecting consumers.
The Role
The Examination & Education Coordinator supports Alberta Insurance Council's examination programs through the development, maintenance, and continuous improvement of examination policies, procedures, accommodations, proctoring programs, security processes, reporting, and operational standards. The role conducts research and analysis, supports examination maintenance and regulatory updates, and contributes to ensuring Alberta's licensing examinations remain fair, secure, and effective. Working closely with internal and external stakeholders, the role helps maintain the integrity, effectiveness, and quality of the examination framework.
In addition, the role supports AIC's Continuing Education accreditation program by reviewing course submissions, maintaining accreditation records, providing stakeholder guidance, and contributing to the administration of CE programs and processes.
Key Responsibilities
Examination Program
- Research, develop, implement, and maintain examination policies, procedures, standards, manuals, and operational documentation.
- Coordinate examination accommodation reviews and provide recommendations aligned with legislation, policy, regulatory requirements, and established practices.
- Manage the proctor program, including recruitment support, onboarding, training, operational guidance, handbook maintenance, and contract administration.
- Support examination security, emergency response protocols, quality assurance activities, and compliance monitoring to protect the integrity of licensing examinations.
- Analyze examination results and program data, preparing reports and recommendations to support decision-making and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Support the ongoing maintenance and enhancement of licensing examinations, including curriculum changes, regulatory updates, examination content reviews, and program improvements.
Continuing Education (CE) Program
- Respond to CE inquiries from agents and adjusters.
- Monitor CE compliance trends and assist in reporting.
- Collaborate with other departments to address CE deficiencies and support education initiatives.
Education Department Support
- Contribute to development and updates of Education program standards, guidelines, and procedures.
- Participate in cross functional projects related to education, licensing, and professional development.
- Assist with testing education related systems, reviewing enhancements, and supporting improvements.
- Support onboarding of new team members and provide coverage during staff absences.
THE REQUIREMENTS
Qualifications & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Education, Business Administration, Public Policy, or a related field.
- 3+ years of experience in insurance industry training, education administration, and/or regulatory compliance.
- Experience conducting research, analysis, reporting, and process improvement initiatives.
- Strong understanding of adult learning principles and continuing education frameworks.
Assets
- Experience working with regulatory bodies.
- Knowledge of instructional design or curriculum development.
- Familiarity with Alberta’s Insurance Act and CE requirements for insurance professionals.
Employment is conditional on a clear criminal record check at the cost of AIC.
Skills & Competencies
- Strong customer service orientation with a commitment to providing responsive, professional, and solution-focused support to internal and external stakeholders.
- Ability to interpret and apply legislation, regulations, policies, standards, and procedures consistently and objectively.
- Strong analytical and critical thinking skills with the ability to research issues, assess risks, and develop practical recommendations.
- Exceptional attention to detail and commitment to accuracy, consistency, and quality.
- Strong organizational and project coordination skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and competing deadlines.
- Experience handling confidential and sensitive information with discretion and professionalism.
- Excellent written communication skills for policies, procedures, reports, and stakeholder correspondence.
- Strong verbal communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to build collaborative relationships and navigate challenging conversations professionally.
- Commitment to continuous improvement and enhancing programs, processes, and stakeholder experience.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and experience working with databases, examination systems, or other business applications.
WHAT WE OFFER
We offer a collaborative and enjoyable work environment and a chance to make a difference in the lives of Albertans. Experience the exceptional benefits of working with us, including:
- Comprehensive benefits package, including health and dental.
- Generous health and wellness spending account.
- Secure your future with up to 7% RRSP employer matching.
- Generous vacation time, starting at three weeks plus December closure.
- Possibility for up to two hybrid work days per week once probation is completed.
- Additional employee discounts and perks available.
Eligibility based on employment status.
HOW TO APPLY
If the role is a fit, please apply here to join the AIC and help us make an impact protecting Albertan insurance consumers.
This competition will remain open until September 8, 2026.
AIC thanks all candidates for their interest. We value the time and efforts candidates put into their application and we commit to responding to all candidates and letting know the status of their application.
AIC is committed to promoting equity and diversity, and to creating a work environment that is respectful, inclusive, and free from barriers.
