Job description

About MGT Insurance
MGT is the first AI-driven, neo-insurer focused on evolving commercial P&C insurance for the brokers and small business owners. By combining the expertise of industry veterans with state-of-the-art technology, we are ushering in the next evolution of commercial insurance and working to move the industry forward through the use of modern technology, better processes, and a rock-star team. We seek visionary leaders who thrive in dynamic, entrepreneurial settings, and excel in autonomous roles.
Position Overview
The Commercial Insurance Territory Manager oversees the carrier's sales growth and agency partnerships within a designated geographic region. This role acts as a critical bridge between the company and independent agents or brokers. The primary focus is to drive profitable revenue growth, expand regional market share, and ensure local sales goals are met through proactive relationship management and strategic training.
Core Responsibilities
  • Agency Relationship Management: Build, maintain, and strengthen partnerships with independent insurance agents and brokers to promote carrier products.
  • Sales Growth & Strategy: Create and execute tactical territory plans to achieve financial targets, increase premium volume, and expand regional market share.
  • Training & Product Support: Educate agency staff on carrier underwriting guidelines, risk appetite, and new product rollouts.
  • Market & Data Analysis: Monitor competitor activities, evaluate agency performance metrics, review books of business, and adjust local strategies to maximize profitability.
  • Internal Collaboration: Partner closely with internal underwriting, marketing, and claims teams to resolve agency issues and streamline the sales pipeline.

Key Skills & Competencies
  • Relationship Building: Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills to act as a trusted advisor to agency principals and production staff.
  • Insurance Expertise: Deep knowledge of commercial lines of business, including general liability, commercial property, workers' compensation, and commercial auto.
  • Analytical Skills: Proficiency in reading data reports, tracking performance metrics, and analyzing local market trends.
  • Self-Motivation: Ability to work autonomously, manage a regional travel schedule, and drive sales targets with minimal direct supervision.

Typical Requirements & Qualifications
  • Education: Bachelor's degree in Business, Marketing, Finance, Risk Management, or equivalent professional industry experience.
  • Experience: 3 to 5+ years of combined experience in commercial insurance sales, territory management, agency plant management, or underwriting.
  • Licensing/Designations: Active state Property & Casualty (P&C) insurance license is preferred. Industry professional designations (e.g., CIC, CPCU, CRM) are highly valued.
  • Travel Requirements: Ability to travel for in-person visits with agencies and attend conferences/events throughout the assigned territory.

Compensation: This is a commission-based role with expected On-Target Earnings (OTE) of $140K-$220K. OTE represents the expected total annual compensation (base salary plus commission) for employees meeting performance expectations. Actual compensation may vary based on location, experience, qualifications, and individual performance.
We recognize that no candidate will meet every qualification and encourage individuals with relevant experience and interest in the role to apply.
Please note: MGT does not accept unsolicited resumes from staffing vendors, including recruitment agencies and/or search firms. Please do not forward resumes to our jobs alias, MGT employees, or any other company location. Any submittals without a prior signed agreement will become property of MGT.
Our Commitment to Diversity, Equity & Inclusion
At MGT, inclusion drives excellence and belonging sustains it. We believe diverse perspectives make us stronger, more innovative, and more connected to the people we serve. We value every voice, champion equity, and create space where all people can grow and succeed together.
