About the Role:
We are looking for a Mechanical Project Engineer with experience delivering capital projects in industrial or manufacturing environments.
In this role, you will lead large-scale equipment rebuilds, facility upgrades, and greenfield or brownfield projects from initial concept through design, installation, commissioning, and final handover.
This is a strong fit for engineers who enjoy owning the full project lifecycle and working closely with operations, maintenance, procurement, safety, and engineering teams to deliver practical, high-impact solutions. You will oversee the mechanical scope of design, demolition, build, and installation activities, while also supporting the asset management strategy for forming and curing equipment.
The role requires someone comfortable managing CapEx and OpEx budgets, project schedules, contractor coordination, and technical documentation in a fast-paced production setting. You will partner closely with Knauf plant teams in North America as well as global engineering, process, production, HSE, CRD, project management, and procurement colleagues to ensure projects are well planned, well executed, and delivered safely, on time, and within budget.
Responsibilities
  • Ability to design and/or redesign mechanical equipment specifically in the areas of insulation forming and curing manufacturing, and respective exhaust systems.
  • Provides technical advice to other departments as needed.
  • Effectively manage Contractors and other Engineers for design, installation, and startup of equipment.
  • Develops improved processes in the fiberglass manufacturing process to improve quality, reduce scrap, improve utilization of raw materials, etc.
  • Assists in start-up and de-bugging of new production lines and facilities.
  • Aggressively pursues new technologies or equipment that can offer a benefit to the company.
  • Provides training for operators when new or improved processes are developed.
  • Offers troubleshooting assistance on processes or equipment when requested by the plants.
  • Assists in developing the Capital Spending Plan for each year for upcoming major projects.
  • Ensures that drawings developed within the group are entered into the Knauf drawing system and that appropriate updates are made to drawings and equipment documentation as needed.
  • Develops/publishes standards and specifications for all equipment relating to the manufacture of fiberglass products.
  • Educates other engineers on common engineering practices used in the manufacture of fiberglass insulation.

Qualifications
Education/Experience:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering; and
  • Five (5) years of experience in an industrial manufacturing environment-or-
  • Ten (10) years of experience in industrial plant design and/or engineering; and
  • Background in project management

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • Working knowledge of AutoCAD; Inventor preferred
  • Strong understanding of mechanical engineering, construction and industrial production environments
  • Experience with technical drawings, blueprints, layouts and design models
  • Helpful experience in materials, process piping, P&IDs, structural/civil work, conveyor systems, controls, air flow systems, machining and rigging
  • Exposure to environmental equipment such as oxidisers and precipitators is a plus
  • Ability to install, operate, monitor, troubleshoot and repair mechanical systems
  • Strong project management, problem-solving and decision-making skills
  • Able to manage budgets, resources and multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
  • Effective communicator who can work well with internal teams and external contractors
  • Strong organisation, time management, presentation and computer skills, including Word, Excel and PowerPoint
  • Willingness to travel up to 40%, including occasional international travel
