Job Summary:

The Instrumentation Superintendent is responsible for the safe, efficient, and high-quality execution of all instrumentation and controls construction activities within an assigned project area. The role provides direct leadership to craft professionals and subcontractors, while ensuring instrumentation systems are installed, tested, and turned over in accordance with project requirements. The Instrumentation Superintendent drives workface planning, productivity, safety, quality, and system readiness to support commissioning and startup objectives..#LI-CL1

Major Responsibilities:
  • Leads all instrumentation construction activities within assigned areas of responsibility.
  • Maintains accountability for safe execution of all instrumentation work activities and directs field supervision, craft professionals, and subcontractors to ensure work is executed safely, efficiently, and in accordance with project requirements.
  • Establishes and drives daily, weekly, and long-range execution priorities aligned with project milestones.
  • Ensures labor, materials, tools, permits, access, and supporting disciplines are aligned before work begins.
  • Identifies and removes constraints that impact productivity and schedule performance.
  • Coordinates instrumentation activities with electrical, mechanical, piping, controls, commissioning, and operations teams.
  • Ensures compliance with project ES&H requirements, permit systems, lockout/tagout procedures, and energized work controls are fully integrated into daily execution activities.
  • Monitors progress, productivity, resource utilization, and installation performance and implement recovery plans and corrective actions when execution deviates from project objectives.
  • Provides accurate reporting of installed quantities, progress status, workforce forecasts, and completion projections.
  • Ensures instrumentation systems are delivered complete, tested, documented, and ready for commissioning.
Education and Experience Requirements:
  • Requires bachelor's degree (or international equivalent) and 5-8 years of relevant experience or 9 -12 years of relevant work experience in lieu of degree.
Required Knowledge and Skills:
  • Extensive knowledge of industrial instrumentation, controls, analyzers, field communications, tubing systems, and instrument installation practices.
  • Strong understanding of ES&H requirements, electrical safety practices, and regulatory compliance.
  • Strong understanding of DCS, PLC, SCADA, networking, fieldbus, and modern control system architectures.
  • Experience leading large craft organizations and instrumentation subcontractors on industrial, manufacturing, semiconductor, energy, mining, chemical, or M&T projects.
  • Knowledge of commissioning, loop checking, system turnover, startup, and operational readiness processes.
  • Ability to interpret construction drawings, specifications, instrument indexes, loop diagrams, wiring diagrams, and vendor documentation.
  • Ability to operate effectively in high-complexity, schedule-driven project environments using a team approach.
