Job Duties
The School of Social Work within the College of Health and Human Sciences at East Carolina University (ECU) invites applications for a nine-month tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant Professor beginning August 2027. The School of Social Work seeks candidates who will advance our mission of excellence in social work education through innovative teaching, scholarship, and research. Successful candidates will demonstrate a commitment to teaching across the curriculum at both the graduate (MSW) and undergraduate (BSW) levels and will bring expertise in both generalist and relational perspectives.
Candidates should be prepared to contribute to the school's longstanding commitment to rural and underserved communities, health equity, and community-engaged social work education. We particularly welcome scholars who demonstrate strong potential for continued scholarly development and who are prepared to make meaningful contributions to teaching, research, and service.

Minimum Education/Experience

• A PhD or DSW in Social Work or a closely related field from an appropriately accredited institution is required. Candidates with the PhD conferred at the time of initial appointment will hold the probationary rank of Assistant Professor. ABD candidates will also be initially appointed with the probationary term rank of Assistant Professor and must have the terminal degree conferred prior to their first reappointment.
• A Master of Social Work (MSW) degree from a Council on Social Work Education (CSWE) accredited program.
• A minimum of two years of post-Master of Social Work Degree Practice Experience. Experience may include direct clinical practice, community-based practice, policy, administration, or other professional social work practice relevant to the position.

License or Certification Required by Statute or Regulation
None
Preferred Experience, Skills, Training/Education

• Peer-reviewed publications in social work or a related field.
• Experience developing and/or submitting grant proposals, including applications for external funding.
• Teaching experience in social work or a related discipline in higher education, including online, hybrid, or in-person formats.
• Demonstrated knowledge and experience in social work education, and/or curriculum development.
• Experience working with rural populations and communities.

Salary is competitive and commensurate with achievement and experience. It is expected that this position will begin in August 2027.
