Job description

PURPOSE
The purpose of the Manual Machinist position is to accurately perform tasks according to work instructions that are related to machining of SMC components
ESSENTIAL DUTIES
Essential Job Responsibilities
  • Adherence to all department work instructions.
  • Execute all functions of Manual/CNC/CNC - Setup operator functions.
  • Process all necessary paperwork associated with established machining standards.
  • Execute basic to advanced workflow tasks on established SMC systems.
  • Work from SMC blueprints for standard and modified parts, X-Options and specials.
  • Re-machine or modify original parts according to new dimensions and/or customer requirements.
  • Conduct basic preventative maintenance on machines.
  • Troubleshoot routine equipment breakdowns.
  • Basic knowledge of SMC raw material properties.
  • Basic knowledge of SMC products.
  • Basic knowledge of painting.
  • Performs mill / Lathe/ Grinder set-up (set-up of manually controlled equipment).
  • Ability to improvise temporary tooling or jigs to facilitate special parts machining.
  • Applies appropriate tooling for individual materials.
  • Applies proper feed and speed rates for individual machines and materials.
  • Quality control of parts to ensure dimensions within tolerances.
  • Program machine in accordance with blueprint specifications as assigned.
  • Adherence to all SMC safety rules and OSHA/ISO regulations.
  • Adhere to all QA management system standards.
  • Understand and follow all company policies and safety procedures.

In this role, you will complete all other duties as assigned by your supervisor.
All candidates applying for the manual Machinist position will take a written and practical assessment to better understand their machining experience. Additional training will be provided to new hires on the specific brand of CNC machine, SMC ERP systems, standards, and practices.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS/WORK ENVIRONMENT
  • The physical demands of this position require the employee to stand, walk, and use their hands to handle or feel objects, tools, or controls, and reach with their hands and arms. The role will also necessitate the employee to lift heavy components (up to 40Lbs) as needed.
  • The person is frequently required to climb or balance, stoop kneel, crouch or crawl. Must be able to hear and talk.

While the production facility is temperature controlled, the work environment may expose employees to noise, heat, cold, dust, lubricants and/or solvents.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
  • At least 2 years of prior CNC machine setup required.
  • Available to work overtime on weekdays/weekends as needed (multiple day time schedules are available).
  • Basic computer and math skills.
  • Detail-oriented.
  • Work in a team environment for an increased productivity and quality.
  • Communication: Must be able to read/write/speak and understand English. Must be able to effectively communicate.
