Job description

Help Wanted: Central Office Installation Technicians - Fiber, Secondary Power & Common Systems
We are looking for experienced and motivated Central Office Installation Technicians to join our high-performing telecom infrastructure team. If you are hands-on, detail-oriented, and know your way around fiber routing, secondary power, and transport system installations, we want to hear from you.
Position: Central Office Installation Technician
Location: West - Travel Required
Employment Type: Full-Time & Unit Based
Pay Range: $25-$35 p/h based on Skill set. Unit-based opportunities are also available.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Install, test, and turn-up equipment in Central Office (CO), data center, and remote site environments.
  • Fiber Work:
    • Route and secure fiber in overhead or underfloor raceways to industry standards (e.g., NEBS, GR-1275).
    • Terminate SC/LC/UPC/APC connectors and build fiber shelves, patch panels, and splice trays.
  • Secondary Power:
    • Terminate DC power cables (-48V) with proper crimping and lugs (e.g., 2-hole compression lugs).
    • Run power from BDFB to equipment racks following Telcordia standards.
    • Verify voltage, polarity, and grounding integrity using a multimeter and load bank where needed.
  • Common System Installations:
    • Rack, stack, and secure equipment, route fiber and copper jumpers, and label all terminations.
    • Add relay racks, cabinets, cabling infrastructure to include rack, fiber duct, grounding.

Required Qualifications:
  • 2+ years of experience installing telecom or data network infrastructure.
  • Strong familiarity with CO installation practices including GR-1275, NEBS, and customer-specific standards (e.g., Lumen TP-77350).
  • Capable of reading and interpreting detailed engineering documentation: MOPs, circuit diagrams, rack elevation drawings, and labeling plans.
  • Physically able to lift up to 50 lbs., climb ladders, and work in raised floor or ceiling environments.
  • Multiple overnight travel is required. Per Diem and other travel benefits are provided.

Preferred Experience:
  • Familiarity with DC power systems (BDFB, battery plants, rectifiers, fuse panels).
  • Experience working with major telecom carriers or equipment OEMs.
  • Certifications: OSHA 10/30, First Aid/CPR, or vendor-specific (e.g., Ciena/Nokia certs).
  • Understanding of fiber management systems and structured cabling solutions.
