Job description

Argus Consulting is seeking an early career Project Manager to support aviation infrastructure and fuel systems projects across commercial and general aviation environments. This role is ideal for an engineer who enjoys problem-solving, communication, coordination, and working with a wide variety of stakeholders while growing into a long-term project management career.

This position offers direct mentorship from senior project leaders and exposure to both technical project execution and client relationship management. The selected candidate will support projects at smaller to mid-sized airports while also assisting with a major aviation fuel program and our established ESS (Engineering Support Services) program.

This position is located in our Overland Park, KS office and is primarily in-office with flexibility; occasional travel required

What You’ll Do

Client & Relationship Management

  • Support Senior Project Managers on aviation fuel system and airport infrastructure projects
  • Coordinate project schedules, budgets, deliverables, and communication with clients and internal teams
  • Participate in project meetings, site visits, and stakeholder discussions
  • Assist with project documentation, reporting, and presentations
  • Help manage subconsultants including surveyors, geotechnical firms, cathodic protection consultants, architects, and other specialty vendors
  • Coordinate subcontract scopes, agreements, budgets, and deliverables

ESS Program Support

  • Support Senior Project Managers on aviation fuel system and airport infrastructure projects
  • Coordinate project schedules, budgets, deliverables, and communication with clients and internal teams
  • Participate in project meetings, site visits, and stakeholder discussions
  • Assist with project documentation, reporting, and presentations
  • Help manage subconsultants including surveyors, geotechnical firms, cathodic protection consultants, architects, and other specialty vendors
  • Coordinate subcontract scopes, agreements, budgets, and deliverables

    Business Development Support

    • Assist with proposal development including schedules, fee estimates, scopes of work, and technical writing
    • Support client presentations and relationship-building activities
    • Learn how engineering consulting projects are developed, scoped, and sold
    • Participate in identifying opportunities for additional client support services

    Project Execution

    • Lead projects from planning through closeout, ensuring scope, schedule, and budget alignment.
    • Develop project plans, schedules, and staffing strategies.
    • Coordinate internal teams, subconsultants, and client stakeholders.
    • Lead project meetings, site visits, and client presentations.
    • Ensure deliverables meet project requirements, specifications, and applicable codes.

    Quality, Risk & Financial Performance

    • Ensure projects comply with Argus quality control standards.
    • Identify and manage project risks proactively.
    • Monitor project financial performance, including budgets, labor, and profitability.
    • Coordinate invoicing, change orders, and subconsultant reviews in partnership with Accounting and Project Controls.

    What We’re Looking For

    This role is best suited for professionals with direct experience managing engineering or infrastructure projects in a client-facing consulting environment.

    • 5 years engineering or consulting engineering experience 
    • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering required
      • Mechanical Engineering preferred
      • Civil or Electrical Engineering backgrounds will also be considered
    • Strong written and verbal communication skills
    • Ability to communicate effectively with a broad range of stakeholders from field personnel and contractors to airport operators and executive leadership
    • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
    • Willingness to travel periodically for client meetings and site visits

    Preferred Qualifications:

    • Internship, co-op, or early career experience in engineering consulting, infrastructure, construction, aviation, or industrial systems
    • Experience with technical writing, proposals, budgeting, or scheduling
    • PMP certification or interest in pursuing PMP certification
    • Professional Engineer (PE) registration 
    • Experience coordinating multiple priorities or working across team

    Work Environment

    • Located in Kansas City Metro (Overland Park, KS)
    • Combination of office and jobsite environments.
    • Up to 20% travel required based on project and client needs.
