Job description

About Overland AI
Founded in 2022 and headquartered in Seattle, Washington, Overland AI is transforming land operations for modern defense. The company leverages over a decade of advanced research in robotics and machine learning, as well as a field-test forward ethos, to deliver combined capabilities for unit commanders. Our OverDrive autonomy stack enables ground vehicles to navigate and operate off-road in any terrain without GPS or direct operator control. Our intuitive OverWatch C2 interface provides commanders with precise coordination capabilities essential for mission success.
Overland AI has secured funding from prominent defense tech investors including 8VC and Point 72, and built trusted partnerships with DARPA, the U.S. Army, Marine Corps, and Special Operations Command. Backed by eight-figure contracts across the Department of Defense, we are strengthening national security by iterating closely with end users engaged in tactical operations.
Role Summary:
Overland AI is building off-road autonomy, and our software infrastructure is the backbone that enables our teams to move fast, experiment safely, and ship mission-critical systems. As an infrastructure engineer, you'll design, build, and secure the platforms that power our infrastructure, AI model training, autonomous robotics development, and field deployments.
This role spans infrastructure, Kubernetes, secure software delivery, CI/CD, and automation. You'll have a track record of GitOps workflows, and automation tooling to improve reliability, scalability, security, and engineering productivity. We value engineers who are excited to work outside traditional role boundaries. One day you may be debugging Kubernetes, the next writing Python tooling, helping deploy infrastructure, or improving our software supply chain security posture.
What You'll Do:
  • Build and operate the cloud and on-prem platforms that support AI model training, robotics development, and field deployments.
  • Develop secure CI/CD pipelines and DevSecOps capabilities, including automated testing, security scanning, and software supply chain controls.
  • Design and maintain Kubernetes platforms and GitOps workflows using technologies such as EKS, OpenShift, and ArgoCD.
  • Build infrastructure and automation using Terraform, Ansible, and Python to improve developer productivity and operational efficiency.
  • Deploy and manage AWS infrastructure, including networking, identity, compute, and storage services.
  • Design and maintain observability, logging, and monitoring systems to improve reliability and incident response.
  • Partner with engineering teams to deliver secure, scalable, and reliable infrastructure across cloud, datacenter, and field environments.

Minimum Qualifications
  • 6+ years of experience in Platform Engineering, DevOps, DevSecOps, or SRE.
  • Experience in compliance programs such as PCI-DSS, ISO27001, NIST frameworks is highly valued.
  • Strong experience operating production Kubernetes environments and implementing GitOps workflows.
  • Experience building CI/CD pipelines and integrating DevSecOps tooling (SAST, DAST, container scanning, code signing, SBOMs, etc.).
  • Experience deploying and operating AWS infrastructure and supporting Linux-based production systems.
  • Strong understanding of networking, security, and observability concepts, including VPNs, firewalls, routing, logging, and monitoring.
  • Proficiency in Python, Go, Rust, or similar programming languages to build internal tooling and automation.

Desired Experience and Qualifications
  • Familiarity with experiment tracking, ML infrastructure, or data visualization tooling
  • Experience integrating hardware or embedded systems
  • Experience deploying or supporting wireless/WAN infrastructure in field, test, or event environments
  • Familiarity with ML/AI infrastructure, high-performance compute clusters, or robotics-focused environments

Other Requirements

  • Ability to travel out-of-state for ~1-2 weeks per year
  • Ability to work onsite in our Seattle office at least 3 days per week
  • Ability to participate in 24x7 on-call rotation
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a DoD Security Clearance

Benefits
  • Competitive salary: $130K - $225K annually
