Job Description

Responsible for leading the engineering of various and complex aspects of both physical and cloud hosted data center network infrastructure. Lead the analysis of current and future requirements to effectively design data center infrastructure, networking and telephony systems whiledeterminingdesign feasibility from both technical and economic perspectives. Develop andmaintaintechnical standards, procedures and documentation in partnership with service partners as needed. Coordinate the compilation and analysis of operational data anddirectsproof of technology toestablishstandardfornew designsor modifications to existing equipment, systems, or processes. As subject matterexpert,partnerand consult with varied technical, business, project and management staff toidentifyand plan, assess datacenterand cloud infrastructure designs, physical data center requirements and impacts and resolve complex design problems.

  • Coordinate the planning and development ofhighly complexengineering designs in support of the implementation of network solutions.

  • Own andmaintaintechnologycurrency and capacity planning in support of established SLAs.

  • Define hardware and software performance standards.

  • As cross functional, multi-disciplinary infrastructure SME, provideexpertiseand knowledge in emerging technologies with strategic technology vendors

  • Provide leadership in software and hardware licensing, financial and capacity activities that plan for the most efficient way to introduce andmaintaindatacenter technology within the environment.

  • Proactively provide information and ongoing consultation for IT and business areas as well as vendors directly or indirectly affected by the network or data center infrastructures.

  • Lead the detailed infrastructure design of larger and/or more complex internal projects collaborating with IT stakeholders, serviceownersand partners.

  • Provide operational readiness through the engineering, planning, coordination, and execution of performance and tuning analysis, systems support, incident and problem resolution, software installation, and upgrades.

  • Provide detailed guidance and consultation insolutioningmore complex and/orhigh visibilityproduction incidents whenrequired.

  • Maintainappropriate standardizedguidelines, workproceduresand schedules for solution engineering within the data center environment toexpediteworkflow andultimately improveefficiencies.

  • Build collaborative relationships with the broader architecture community to effectivelymaintaintechnical roadmaps and provide input into strategies and standards related toareaof specialization.

  • Lead collaboration with vendors on infrastructure designs to ensure the final product is what was architected or designed.

  • Regularly act in a project lead capacity and/or represent the department on enterprise-wide project teams.

  • Organize and leadnew technologybriefings with IT and Enterprise leadership at varied leadership forums.

  • Provide direction and assistance to less experienced team members and may oversee or coordinate work efforts as needed.

What You Bring

  • Bachelor's degree or advanced degree (whererequired)

  • 8+ years of experience in relatedfield.

  • In lieu of degree, 10+ years of systems engineering experience.

  • Layer 3 Leaf-Spine

  • EVPN with VXLAN data plane

  • WAN routing in a multi-VRF environment

  • Virtual network functions (VNF)

Salary Range

At Blue Cross NC, we take great pride in a fair and equitable compensation package that reflects market-price and our starting salaries are typically planned near the middle of the range listed. Compensation decisions are driven by factors including experience and training, specialized skill sets, licensure and certifications and other business and organizational needs.Our base salary is part of a robust Total Rewards package that includes an Annual Incentive Bonus*, 401(k) with employer match, Paid Time Off (PTO), and competitive health benefits and wellness programs.
