Morrison Mentors, Inc. is an educational consulting organization that designs innovative learning strategies and professional services that connect in-school and out-of-school learning. Founded in 2012 and headquartered in Hempstead, New York, the organization focuses on supporting students in underperforming school districts through mobile technology mentoring and tutoring. Morrison Mentors works with communities and institutions to analyze existing programs, implement customized solutions, and fund free after-school and weekend enrichment programs. The organization trains and certifies high school students and recent college graduates as tutors, then mobilizes them to partnering organizations to support Kโ€“12 learners and collect educational data. Through collaboration with schools and other learning institutions, Morrison Mentors co-creates workshops, courses, and programs that help place students on a path to succeed beyond high school graduation.


Role Description

The Teaching Assistant role is a part-time, on-site position located in Hempstead, NY. The Teaching Assistant will support lead educators and tutors in delivering instruction to Kโ€“12 students, reinforcing lesson plans, and guiding students through assignments and enrichment activities.


Day-to-day responsibilities include assisting with classroom management, providing one-on-one and small-group academic support, especially in core subjects such as mathematics, and helping to integrate technology-based learning tools. The Teaching Assistant will also help track student progress, prepare materials and resources, and contribute to creating a positive, inclusive, and motivating learning environment. Collaboration with staff, students, and families is expected to ensure consistent support for student achievement and engagement.


Availability Requirements 


Spring & Fall (During the School Year) Partโ€‘time schedule with a minimum commitment of 2โ€“3 days per week, available between 12:00 PMโ€“6:00 PM or 1:00 PMโ€“6:00 PM

Priority will be given to candidates with open availability on Tuesday and Thursday


Compensation: Rate of $18โ€“$20 per hour, depending on experience. 


Qualifications

  • Candidates should possess strong Assistant Teaching and Education skills to support instruction and classroom activities.
  • Candidates should possess solid Mathematics skills to help learners understand and practice key concepts.
  • Candidates should possess effective Communication skills to work collaboratively with students, educators, and families.
  • Candidates should possess experience Working With Children and an ability to build rapport with diverse Kโ€“12 learners.
  • Additional qualifications such as prior tutoring or classroom experience, familiarity with technology-enhanced learning, and a commitment to educational equity are beneficial.
  • A high school diploma is required; college coursework or a degree in Education or a related field is preferred.
  • Ability to pass any required background checks and to work on-site
