Senior Firewall Engineer (Contract) - Information Security Engineering

About the Role
We are seeking a skilled and motivated Senior Firewall Engineer to design, implement, and support secure, scalable network infrastructures. In this role, you will work on moderately complex security engineering initiatives, contribute to enterprise-scale planning, and collaborate with cross-functional teams to strengthen network security capabilities.
This position is ideal for candidates with strong expertise in enterprise firewall platforms (Palo Alto, Fortinet) and experience operating in large, multi-vendor environments, particularly within financial services.
What You'll Do
  • Design, implement, and maintain secure network infrastructure using Palo Alto, Fortinet, and Cisco technologies.
  • Lead and support firewall migration initiatives, including:
    • Policy analysis
    • Configuration translation
    • Deployment using tools such as Expedition, FortiConverter, SmartMove
  • Build and deploy new (greenfield) and existing network security environments.
  • Optimize firewall policies and rulebases to align with best practices and compliance standards.
  • Troubleshoot complex network security issues across multi-vendor environments.
  • Collaborate with network, cloud, infrastructure, and application teams to integrate security controls.
  • Monitor and respond to security events, alerts, and incidents, contributing to root cause analysis and remediation.
  • Maintain documentation (network diagrams, standards, procedures).
  • Participate in on-call rotation for critical incidents and maintenance support.
  • Stay current on emerging threats, vulnerabilities, and security technologies.
Minimum Qualifications
  • 4+ years of experience in Information Security Engineering (or equivalent experience through work, education, military, or training).
  • 2+ years of hands-on experience in network security engineering, with a focus on enterprise firewall platforms.
  • 2+ years of experience configuring and managing Palo Alto Networks firewalls.
  • 2+ years of experience in:
    • Security policy design
    • Rulebase optimization
    • Firewall hardening in multi-vendor environments
  • 2+ years of experience with Palo Alto Panorama, including:
    • Template stacks
    • Device groups
    • Policy management hierarchy
    • Logging and reporting
    • Role-based access control
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with Fortinet firewall technologies.
  • Familiarity with Cisco routing and switching.
  • Experience in large financial services environments.
  • Experience with firewall migration tools and automation utilities.
  • Strong understanding of compliance and regulatory security requirements.
