Business Intelligence Developer
The Business Intelligence Developer / Report Writer is responsible for developing business intelligence reports and analysis utilizing different applications within the Corporate Finance department to meet the needs of the health system. This position also supports and maintains the hospital's EMR data repository.
Business Intelligence Developer - Epic/Cogito
Overview
Our hospital is seeking a Business Intelligence Developer with strong Epic and Cogito expertise to support data-driven decision-making across clinical, operational, and financial areas. In this role, you'll help transform complex healthcare data into meaningful insights that improve patient outcomes, streamline workflows, and strengthen organizational performance.
Key Responsibilities
  • Develop, maintain, and optimize Epic Cogito data models, extracts, and reporting structures to support hospital clinical and operational needs.
  • Build and enhance Epic Reporting Workbench reports, Radar dashboards, and other analytics tools used by clinicians, administrators, and leadership.
  • Write efficient SQL queries to support reporting, data validation, quality initiatives, and regulatory requirements.
  • Collaborate with clinical departments, nursing leadership, revenue cycle teams, and IT to gather requirements and translate them into actionable BI solutions.
  • Ensure data accuracy, integrity, and consistency across hospital reporting environments, including Clarity and Caboodle.
  • Troubleshoot data issues and provide ongoing support for Epic reporting workflows and hospital analytics tools.
  • Support hospital quality, compliance, and performance-improvement initiatives through timely and accurate data insights.
  • Present findings and communicate complex data concepts clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Information Systems, Computer Science, Analytics, Healthcare Informatics, or a related field.
  • Experience with Epic Cogito, including Clarity, Caboodle, or Reporting Workbench.
  • Strong SQL skills with the ability to write, optimize, and troubleshoot complex queries.
  • Experience developing reports or dashboards in a healthcare or hospital environment.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to collaborate effectively with clinical and operational teams.
  • Strong analytical thinking, attention to detail, and problem-solving abilities.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Epic certifications in Cogito, Clarity, Caboodle, or related modules.
  • Experience with BI tools such as Power BI, Tableau, or Qlik.
  • Understanding of hospital operations, clinical workflows, quality metrics, or revenue cycle processes.
  • Experience with data warehousing concepts and ETL processes.
  • Workday reporting experience (Report Writer, Prism, dashboards) is a strong bonus, especially for HR, finance, or workforce analytics.
