Job description

Why this role

We are seeking a consultant with deep expertise in Epic data architecture to advise our team on accessing, interpreting, and structuring EHR data for product development and analytics. The primary focus is Epic (e.g., Clarity and Caboodle), with familiarity across other major EHR vendors preferred. The consultant should understand how clinical workflows (e.g., documentation, ordering, medication administration) generate data within the operational EHR and how those data propagate into reporting tables used for downstream analysis. This role will help translate complex EHR structures into scalable, analysis-ready data models and advise on cross-vendor data normalization and interoperability standards (e.g., FHIR, HL7, SNOMED, LOINC).

We estimate that the current need is ongoing for approximately 4-6 hours per week.

What you'll do
  • Serve as a strategic advisor on Epic data architecture (Clarity, Chronicles, SMART on FHIR workflows) guiding data access, structure, and interpretation.
  • Translate clinical workflows and system build decisions into clear data lineage from operational EHR to reporting environments.
  • Advise on the design of scalable, analytics-ready data models derived from EHR extracts.
  • Provide guidance on cross-vendor data normalization and interoperability standards (FHIR, HL7, SNOMED, LOINC).
  • Assess data quality, governance, and structural risks; recommend best practices for sustainable architecture.
  • Partner with product, engineering, and analytics leaders to align EHR data strategy with business and product goals.
  • Offer expert consultation on querying and optimizing large healthcare datasets.
Minimum qualifications
  • 3+ years of hands-on experience working with Epic data (Clarity required; Caboodle preferred)
  • Strong understanding of how clinical workflows and system build decisions affect downstream data structure
  • Experience designing analytics-ready datasets from raw EHR extracts
  • Familiarity with other EHR vendors and healthcare interoperability standards
  • Able to read and interpret SQL and Spark (coding not required)
Salary Range

The range for the Clinical Informatics Consultant is approximately $150-175/hr.
