Job description

Job Description & Requirements
Co-Director, Genetics Laboratory
StartDate: ASAP Pay Rate: $315000.00 - $350000.00

Indiana University School of Medicine is seeking a physician or senior laboratory leader to serve as Co Director of the IU Genetic Testing Laboratories within the Department of Medical and Molecular Genetics. This is an exciting opportunity to join a well-established and rapidly growing academic lab and help guide its next phase of growth across clinical diagnostics and genomics.

The laboratory is based within IU School of Medicine and supports patients throughout IU Health and across the state. With increasing demand for genetic testing and strong collaboration across clinical and research teams, the program offers a dynamic and supportive environment with meaningful opportunities for impact.

In this role, you will partner with existing leadership to help guide the operations, strategy, and overall direction of the lab. This includes supporting test development and expansion, working closely with clinical and health system partners, and helping navigate processes tied to billing, approvals, and implementation of new services. The role is flexible and can be shaped to align with your strengths—whether that’s operational leadership, clinical expertise, or strategic growth.

We are seeking candidates who are board-certified or board-eligible MD, MD/PhD, or PhD, with experience in molecular genetics, cytogenetics, and/or clinical laboratory leadership. The ideal candidate is collaborative, adaptable, and comfortable working within a complex academic and health system environment, with an interest in helping programs grow and evolve.

Indianapolis, Indiana, offers a compelling combination of professional opportunity, affordability, and livability. As one of the Midwest’s leading healthcare and life sciences hubs, Indianapolis provides physician faculty with access to a growing economy, major health systems, and a strong academic environment.
