What is a Duro Last job?

A Duro-Last job typically refers to the installation or repair of a Duro-Last roofing system, a high-performance, prefabricated PVC roofing membrane. These jobs are commonly performed on commercial and industrial buildings due to the material's durability, energy efficiency, and ease of installation. Roofing contractors install custom-fabricated Duro-Last membranes to minimize seams and reduce the risk of leaks. The process includes surface preparation, membrane placement, heat welding, and flashing installation. Duro-Last jobs require trained professionals to ensure proper installation and long-lasting performance.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in the Duro Last position, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Duro-Last Roofing Installer, you need hands-on skills in commercial roofing, particularly with thermoplastic single-ply roofing systems, along with a high school diploma or equivalent. Familiarity with tools such as hot-air welders, seamers, and safety harness systems, as well as completion of Duro-Last installation certification courses, is highly beneficial. Attention to detail, teamwork, and good problem-solving abilities help installers effectively adapt to jobsite conditions and collaborate with crew members. These competencies are crucial for ensuring quality installations, maintaining safety standards, and achieving project goals in the roofing industry.

What does a typical day look like for a Duro-Last Roofing Installer?

A typical day for a Duro-Last Roofing Installer involves preparing the jobsite, reviewing blueprints or project plans, and working with roofing materials to install or repair Duro-Last single-ply roofing systems. Installers measure and cut membrane, weld seams with specialized tools, inspect their work for quality, and ensure adherence to safety protocols. Teamwork is essential, as installers often collaborate closely with other crew members and site supervisors to complete tasks efficiently. The work is largely outdoors and can require adapting to varying weather conditions and project timelines. This hands-on role is well-suited for individuals who enjoy physically active, detail-oriented work in a team environment.

Full-time

Job description

Technique Roofing is a commercial roofing contractor delivering high-quality roofing, repair, restoration, and maintenance solutions for commercial and industrial facilities. With expertise across a wide range of roofing systems, our team provides dependable service, technical knowledge, and tailored solutions designed to maximize roof performance and protect long-term building assets. We work closely with customers to deliver responsive support, quality workmanship, and efficient project execution across every stage of the roofing lifecycle. We are always looking for motivated professionals who want to grow their careers while contributing to a team focused on delivering exceptional results.

ABOUT TECHNIQUE ROOFING

Technique Roofing is a family-owned and operated commercial roofing company headquartered in Helena, serving customers across Ohio and surrounding states. As part of the Skybound Service Partners platform, Technique is growing rapidly and investing in the people and infrastructure to support that growth. We are looking for a hands-on quality and training specialist who can hold the bar high on every roof we install and build the skills of our crews as we scale.

POSITION SUMMARY

The Quality Control / Training Specialist is responsible for ensuring every installation meets the highest standards of craftsmanship, manufacturer specification, and safety. This role splits time between conducting in-progress and final quality inspections on active jobsites and developing field crews through hands-on training and coaching, with a particular focus on Duro-Last installation excellence. The right candidate is a seasoned commercial roofing professional who knows what a great roof looks like, can teach others how to build one, and brings the credibility, patience, and consistency needed to raise the bar across every crew.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Conduct in-progress and final quality control inspections on active jobsites across Technique's territory, with particular focus on Duro-Last and other single-ply membrane installations.
  • Develop and deliver hands-on training for foremen and crew members on Duro-Last installation methods, manufacturer specifications, and Platinum Contractor standards.
  • Document inspection findings with photos, written reports, and corrective action items; track defects to closure and confirm rework meets specification before sign-off.
  • Build and maintain Technique's quality control program, including inspection checklists, training curriculum, certification tracking, and onboarding materials for new hires.
  • Partner with project managers, foremen, and superintendents to coach crews in real time, reinforce best practices, and address quality issues before they impact warranty or callbacks.
  • Serve as primary liaison with Duro-Last technical representatives during pre-installation meetings, warranty inspections, and ongoing manufacturer training opportunities.

QUALIFICATIONS

Required Experience

  • 3 to 5 years of commercial roofing experience in a quality control, training, or superintendent role.
  • Hands-on Duro-Last installation experience required, including experience training or mentoring others on Duro-Last methods and manufacturer specifications.
  • Working knowledge of additional commercial roofing systems including EPDM, TPO, PVC, BUR, Modified Bitumen, low-slope metal, and roof coatings.
  • Demonstrated ability to identify quality defects, document findings clearly, and drive corrective action through to closure.
  • Experience developing and delivering hands-on field training, with the ability to teach both new hires and experienced crew members at the appropriate level.
  • Strong safety orientation, including knowledge of OSHA fall protection requirements, JHA processes, and PPE standards.
  • Valid driver's license required.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds repeatedly throughout the day.
  • Ability to climb ladders, work at heights, and remain on feet for extended periods.
  • Ability to work outdoors in heat, cold, and varying weather conditions.
  • Comfort working on commercial roof systems, in elevated or confined work areas, and demonstrating installation techniques to crews in the field.

Thank you for considering a career with Technique Roofing. We believe great teams are built on diverse perspectives. We are proud to be an equal opportunity employer and consider all qualified applicants regardless of race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, disability, or veteran status. We invest in our people and provide competitive pay, benefits, and a supportive work environment where your skills and contributions matter.
