Job description

Fall 2026 Internship: This position is located at our HQ in Durham, NC.  Expected program dates are September 14 - December 4.  Anticipated working hours will be about 20 per week.  Final hours and schedule will be determined between the intern and their manager.

Note: Toshiba Global Commerce Solutions will not be providing visa sponsorship for this position now or in the future. Therefore, in order to be considered for this position, you must have the ability to work without a need for current or future visa sponsorship. 

The Industrial Design Intern will contribute within the Hardware development function to help design and create drawings in SolidWorks to support Industrial Design concepts and ideas. They will also be involved in product development meetings and brainstorming sessions, as well as presenting any designs and concepts/models created. There will also be some shop experiences in prototyping "proof of concepts" parts as needed and utilizing 3D printing machine.

Required Skills: 

  • Proficient in Solidworks / Basic CAD skills a must-. Working knowledge: Photoshop, Illustrator, Power Point 
  • Good written and visual presentation skills : / hand sketching a plus 
  • Skills and experience with basic shop tools: hand tools, bench-top power tools. Ability to make simple mockups - foam, foamcore, wood, etc. 
  • Motivated self-starter who is looking for the next task to complete. Someone who asks "what else can I help with" 
  • Position would be roughly 25% design / 75% production 
  • Basic Research skills, User study / Market study 
  • UI / UX knowledge a plus. 
  • Ability to communicate ideas to a team. In person & virtually  
  • Someone who understands Design Process 

Preferred Skills:  

  • 3D Printer usage experience. 

Major Responsibilities:

The candidate will be using SolidWorks to create first pass CAD for new concepts and their iterations.  This will involve proving out those concepts using the 3D printer or other modeling methods. 

The candidate will also be performing some industry research and create a presentation on their findings. 

There will also be an opportunity for user interface generation for concept products.
