What is Indian law?

Indian Law refers to the body of laws that govern the legal system in India, encompassing the Constitution, statutes, regulations, and judicial decisions. It covers areas such as criminal law, civil law, property law, family law, and corporate law, among others. Indian Law also includes personal laws for different religious communities and is influenced by both traditional customs and modern legal principles. The legal framework is administered by various courts, including the Supreme Court, High Courts, and lower courts across the country.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an Indian law attorney?

To thrive as an Indian Law Attorney, you need a Juris Doctor (JD) degree, bar admission, and in-depth knowledge of federal Indian law, tribal sovereignty, and relevant case law. Familiarity with legal research databases (like Westlaw or LexisNexis), as well as experience with treaty interpretation and tribal court procedures, is essential.
