Job Description
The Senior Manager, Market Data Services is a senior leadership role responsible for the strategic management, commercial oversight (sourcing & negotiating), and governance of market data services across the firm. This position has primary accountability for the Index, Exchange, and Ratings Data portfolio, one of the three core pillars within Market Data Services (alongside Real-Time Data and Analytics & Desktop Data).
The role partners closely with global investment teams, technology, procurement, legal, finance, and senior leadership to ensure market data solutions are fit-for-purpose, commercially optimized, compliant with licensing terms, and aligned to business strategy. The Senior Manager leads a team of MDS professionals and plays a key role in shaping the firm's broader market data strategy, operating model, and vendor ecosystem.

Key Responsibilities / Duties:

  • Own the global Index, Exchange, and Ratings Data portfolio, including strategy, delivery, and commercial oversight.
  • Define and execute portfolio roadmaps aligned to investment, risk, operations, and regulatory needs.
  • Lead senior vendor relationships with index providers, exchanges, and ratings agencies.
  • Source and negotiate enterprise contracts, pricing, licensing terms, and usage rights.
  • Manage global market data budgets, forecasting, and financial reporting for assigned data domains.
  • Drive cost optimization, vendor rationalization, and value realization initiatives across regions.
  • Serve as senior advisor to business stakeholders on data selection, benchmarks, and licensing considerations.
  • Ensure compliance with market data governance standards, contractual obligations, and regulatory requirements.
  • Oversee market data inventory accuracy, entitlement tracking, and contract lifecycle management.
  • Resolve complex vendor billing, audit, and usage disputes.
  • Partner with technology teams to onboard, integrate, and distribute index exchange, and ratings data.
  • Lead service reviews with investment, trading, passive, and risk teams to ensure data solutions remain fit-for-purpose.
  • Manage, coach, and develop a team of Market Data Services professionals.
  • Promote standardized processes, documentation, and continuous improvement across the MDS function.
  • Contribute to enterprise-wide Market Data Services strategy and act as a senior escalation point or delegate for MDS leadership.

Work Experience / Knowledge:

  • Significant experience in Market Data Services within asset management, investment management, banking, or financial services.
  • Deep practical knowledge of index data, benchmark administration, exchange data, and ratings data, including commercial licensing models.
  • Strong understanding of how index and exchange data are used across active, passive, ETF, multi-asset, risk, and operations teams.
  • Proven experience managing large-scale market data budgets and complex global vendor relationships.
  • Demonstrated leadership experience managing and developing high-performing teams.
  • Experience working with market data inventory, entitlement, and contract management systems.
  • Strong understanding of market data governance, compliance, and regulatory considerations.
  • Experience with other category areas related to Investment Services to include the outsourcing of third-party administrative services.

The salary range for this position in New York City is $170,000 to $195,000 annually. The total compensation offered for this position includes salary and incentive pay and will vary based on skills, experience and location.
