How much do independent contractor rn jobs pay per week?

As of Aug 11, 2026, the average weekly pay for independent contractor rn in Tyler, TX is $1,026.50, according to ZipRecruiter salary data. Most workers in this role earn between $678.85 and $1,142.31 per week, depending on experience, location, and employer.

What skills and qualifications are needed to thrive as an independent contractor RN?

To thrive as an Independent Contractor RN, you need a current RN license, strong clinical assessment skills, and experience in your specialty area. Familiarity with telehealth platforms, electronic health records (EHRs), and compliance with healthcare regulations is crucial. Outstanding self-motivation, organizational skills, and effective communication help you manage multiple clients and coordinate care independently. These capabilities ensure safe, high-quality patient care while maintaining the flexibility and accountability required in contract-based roles.

How does working as an independent contractor RN differ from traditional staff nursing roles in terms of scheduling and autonomy?

As an Independent Contractor RN, you have greater flexibility over your schedule and the types of assignments you accept compared to traditional staff nurses. This autonomy allows you to choose when and where you work, which can improve work-life balance. However, you'll also be responsible for managing your own contracts, negotiating rates, and handling administrative tasks such as maintaining licensure and obtaining malpractice insurance. While this role offers more independence, it can also present challenges such as inconsistent work availability and less access to employer-provided benefits.

What is an independent contractor RN?

Independent Contractor RNs are registered nurses who work on a contract basis rather than as traditional employees. They often provide nursing services to various healthcare facilities, home health agencies, or private clients, managing their own schedules and business operations. This role allows for greater flexibility and autonomy but also requires handling self-employment responsibilities such as taxes, insurance, and securing contracts with clients.

Job description

Vellum Health is redefining mobile healthcare through a team of independent Infusion RNs delivering therapy across facilities in East-Central Texas. Our nurses operate autonomously in the field, supported by a seasoned clinical and operational team.

If you're ready to step away from 12-hour hospital shifts and high-volume units, and instead want flexibility, autonomy, and a focus on patient-centered care, this is your next chapter.

About the Role

As an Independent Infusion RN, you'll provide skilled IV therapy and related infusion services across the Palestine–Corsicana–Athens–Mexia corridor. This is a mobile field role with visits dispatched based on facility schedules and patient need. Nurses function independently, with mileage reimbursement and full clinical escalation support provided.

Key Responsibilities

Administer IV medications and specialty infusions in skilled nursing and rehab facility settings

Monitor patient responses and manage infusion-related reactions per protocol

Maintain and access existing vascular devices (peripheral IVs, ports, PICCs — no line placement required)

Perform therapeutic injections (IM/SQ) as ordered

Provide patient education on therapy plans and care expectations

Document treatments electronically and communicate updates to providers

Ideal Candidate Profile

Active RN license in Texas

Minimum 1 year of IV infusion or specialty infusion experience

Confident working independently in the field

Current BLS certification

Valid driver's license + reliable personal vehicle

Comfortable using mobile devices for charting and navigation

Schedule & Flexibility

We offer PRN and part-time opportunities in this region:

Part-time: 2+ shifts/week

PRN: Flexible/as needed

Immediate needs on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays based on facility coverage

What We Provide

Mileage reimbursement

24/7 clinical escalation support

Flexible scheduling

Ongoing training and credentialing support

A team culture focused on autonomy and support
