Job Description
The Third Shift Thermal Plant Operator is primarily responsible for operating the thermal soil remediation process in a safe and efficient manner. The Third Shift Thermal Plant Operator is responsible for managing the facility performance using specialized computer software that includes both automated and manual controls. This detail-oriented position requires constant attention to detail and requires continuous process modifications to maintain optimal performance and compliant to the operating permit requirements. A Third Shift Thermal Plant Operator will also be expected to perform pre-shift inspections of facility equipment, document operating conditions, and maintenance repair activities, as needed.
Qualifications
Primary Responsibilities (Essential Functions):
  • Operate thermal plant controls and equipment in a safe and efficient manner compliant to all local, state, and federal permits requirements.
  • Continuously monitor facility operations and make adjustments as required to achieve optimal performance specifications.
  • Perform and document daily operations, safety, and equipment condition checks. Inspect the condition of the machinery/facility components, and communicate items in need of repair or service to the maintenance staff.
  • Assist maintenance staff with necessary repairs, as needed.
  • Work independently in a safe and efficient manner and to follow safety policies and procedures.
  • Maintain a clean work environment, including cleaning equipment as scheduled or necessary.
  • Perform other tasks as assigned by management.
  • Promptly report any incidents, injuries or safety concerns to management.
  • Adhere to and abide by Clean Earth safety and security policies and procedures (e.g.Cardinal Rules, Job Safety Analyses (JSAs), etc.)
  • Perform other reasonably related duties as assigned by management.

This position has regular assigned third shift work hours, however this role requires the ability to work variable hours that may include overtime, alternate shifts, and weekends.
Education, Experience and Skills:
Education:
  • High school diploma or GED
  • Trade school graduates encouraged to apply

Experience:
  • 2 years of experience performing equipment troubleshooting/repair of electrical, mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic and/or combustion systems
  • Experience operating and monitoring computerized plant processing equipment.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office including Word, Excel, Teams, and Outlook.

Skills:
  • Ability to perform basic arithmetic (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, and percentages).
  • Ability to constantly monitor complex digitalized data on a computer screen for extended periods of time.
  • Ability to communicate in English both verbally and in writing
  • Ability to work both independently and in a team environment.
  • Must be dependable, conscientious, detail-oriented, and have a safety-first attitude.
  • Ability to deal politely and professionally with customers and/or coworkers.
  • Experience using basic hand tools and/or power tools to assist with completing repairs.
  • Knowledge of troubleshooting mechanical and electrical problems.
  • Knowledge of electrical, mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and combustion systems.
  • Knowledge of equipment inspection, preventative maintenance, and cleaning standards.
  • Ability to read and interpret schematics, manuals, and regulatory permits
  • Willingness and ability to wear company-issued personal protection equipment including eye protection, foot protection, hard hat, etc.
