Job Title: Independent Consulting Opportunity – Structural Forensic Engineer (1099)

Job Overview: 

U.S. Forensic is seeking an experienced Professional Engineer specializing in Structural Forensics to provide consulting services on a contract basis. This opportunity is ideal for senior-level engineers seeking flexible, project-based assignments while applying deep technical expertise in forensic investigations, failure analysis, and expert consulting.

U.S. Forensic evaluates residential, commercial, industrial, and institutional structures. The selected independent contractor will perform forensic investigations related to structural failures, construction defects, damage causation, and other engineering matters, while developing objective, defensible opinions supported by sound engineering principles and methodologies.

This role is well-suited for a licensed Professional Engineer with forensic consulting experience who is comfortable working independently and may be called upon to provide litigation support, depositions, and expert testimony.

Responsibilities:

  • Conduct forensic investigations involving structural failures, collapses, construction defects, and property damage claims.
  • Perform site inspections and gather relevant field data, measurements, photographs, and documentation.
  • Analyze structural systems and determine the cause, origin, and extent of reported damages or failures.
  • Apply engineering principles, applicable codes, standards, and industry best practices to develop conclusions.
  • Prepare clear, concise, and technically sound forensic engineering reports.
  • Participate in depositions, mediation, arbitration, and trial proceedings as an expert witness when required.
  • Communicate findings effectively with clients, attorneys, insurance professionals, and other stakeholders.
  • Maintain current knowledge of applicable building codes, engineering standards, and forensic investigation methodologies.
  • Perform other project-related consulting services as assigned.
  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, or a related discipline.
  • Active Professional Engineer (PE) license in good standing; multiple state licensure preferred.
  • Prior forensic engineering experience preferred.
  • Demonstrated experience investigating structural failures, construction defects, and damage causation matters.
  • Ability and willingness to travel up to 50%, including short-notice travel in response to catastrophic events, natural disasters, and large-scale property loss investigations.
  • Valid driver's license and ability to travel independently to inspection sites throughout the assigned region.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and technical writing skills.
  • Excellent verbal communication and presentation skills.
  • Experience providing litigation support, depositions, or expert testimony preferred.
  • Ability to manage multiple assignments independently and meet project deadlines.
