Contractors must handle their own taxes, invoices, and business expenses while ensuring compliance with financial regulations. This role offers flexibility but requires strong financial expertise and self-management skills.

What are some freelance finance jobs?

What are some common challenges faced by independent contractor finance professionals?

Independent Contractor Finance professionals often encounter challenges such as managing multiple client projects simultaneously, keeping up with constantly changing tax regulations, and handling variable income streams. They must also build and maintain their client base, which requires strong networking and marketing efforts. Additionally, staying updated on the latest financial tools and industry best practices is important for delivering high-quality services. Effective organization, proactive communication, and ongoing professional development help overcome these challenges and ensure long-term success in this dynamic field.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in independent contractor finance?

To excel as an Independent Contractor in Finance, a strong background in accounting, financial analysis, and business acumen—ideally supported by a degree in finance or accounting—is essential. Familiarity with financial management software such as QuickBooks, Excel, and cloud-based reporting tools, as well as certifications like CPA or CFA, can be highly advantageous. Self-motivation, time management, and effective client communication are crucial soft skills for success in this role. These attributes enable independent contractors to deliver accurate financial solutions, maintain client trust, and manage multiple projects efficiently.

Job description

Rosewood Financial Solutions is seeking experienced tax preparers to join our firm as independent contractors for the upcoming tax season.

This is a 1099 commission-based opportunity ideal for established preparers who already have their own client base and are looking for a professional platform, structure, and leadership support.

Contractor Responsibilities

  • Prepare and file federal and state individual tax returns (Form 1040)

  • Handle self-employed returns (Schedule C) and related credits

  • Conduct required due diligence and ensure full IRS compliance

  • Maintain accurate records and documentation

  • Manage and communicate with your own client base

  • Follow Rosewood Financial Solutions’ professional and compliance standard

Requirements

  • Minimum 6 months of paid tax preparation experience

  • Existing client base is welcomed

  • Strong knowledge of IRS regulations and due diligence requirements

  • Ability to confidently prepare self-employed and credit-heavy returns

  • Experience with tax software (CrossLink preferred but not required)

  • Must operate with integrity — no fraudulent returns tolerated

Compensation

This is a 1099 commission-based opportunity with tiered earning potential based on production.

Commission Structure:

  • 0–49 funded returns: 70% commission

  • 50–99 funded returns: 75% commission

  • 100+ funded returns: 80% commission

Commission percentage is based on total funded returns for the season.

This structure rewards productivity, consistency, and growth. The more you produce, the higher your earning potential.

Rosewood Financial Solutions provides the professional platform, tax software, EFIN structure, and operational support — you bring and manage your client base.

Unlimited earning potential for high producers.

Performance Bonuses

Rosewood Financial Solutions rewards productivity and professionalism.

Top Producer Bonus:
The preparer with the highest number of funded returns at the end of the season will receive a $2,000 performance bonus.

Milestone Bonus:

  • $500 bonus at 75 funded returns

  • Additional $1,000 bonus at 125 funded returns

Bonuses are paid at the end of the tax season and are contingent upon full compliance and no due diligence violations.

Our Structure & Support

At Rosewood Financial Solutions, we operate as a full support network for our contractors.

While you are your own boss and manage your own client relationships, you are not alone. We provide the professional platform, systems, and operational support to help you scale efficiently and confidently.

As a 1099 Independent Contractor, you have the freedom to:

  • Set your own schedule

  • Operate your business in a way that works best for you

  • Manage and communicate with your clients directly

  • Build and grow your own book of business

However, all contractors must:

  • Remain fully compliant with IRS regulations and due diligence requirements

  • Follow Rosewood Financial Solutions’ operational standards

  • Maintain accurate documentation

  • Move with integrity in every client interaction

We believe in independence with accountability.
You run your business — we provide the structure, protection, and support to help you grow it properly.
