What is an independent contractor eDiscovery paralegal?

Independent Contractor Ediscovery Paralegals are legal professionals who specialize in managing electronic discovery (ediscovery) as part of litigation or investigations, but they work on a contract or freelance basis rather than as full-time employees. Their responsibilities include collecting, processing, reviewing, and organizing electronically stored information (ESI) such as emails, documents, and databases for legal cases. As independent contractors, they often work remotely or on a project basis for law firms, corporations, or government agencies, providing flexible support during peak workloads or complex cases.

To thrive as an Independent Contractor Ediscovery Paralegal, you need a strong understanding of legal procedures, eDiscovery processes, and a paralegal certificate or equivalent professional experience. Proficiency in eDiscovery platforms like Relativity, Concordance, or Logikcull, along with knowledge of document review and case management systems, is typically required. Exceptional attention to detail, strong organizational abilities, and effective communication skills distinguish top performers in this role. These competencies are critical for managing complex data, ensuring compliance, and supporting litigation teams efficiently in a dynamic legal environment.
